Challenges in work-life balance and micromanagement.
The good thingsWorking alongside such dedicated colleagues, all united by a clear aim to work successfully and collaboratively for the purpose of organisational success and student support. Despite the challenges thrown at the team, we worked together with professionalism, great leadership, and determination.
The challengesThere was noticeable micromanagement, lack of support and opportunity for career growth while working under a temporary manager whose focus and expertise were not directly aligned with my role. There was also a lack of flexibility for working parents, even during periods of operational downtime, which limited the ability to balance work and personal responsibilities without negatively impacting productivity. This was despite complying in good faith with HR's invasive request for family details (such as ages of children and distance from school). This ultimately led me first to reduce my working hours, again in line with HR’s suggestion, and eventually making the difficult decision to resign.

Not the company where you want to grow your career.
The good thingsGreat colleagues who support each other like a family.
The challengesAll top management is based in Sydney, with little understanding of how the market works in another state. Watch out for the salary package, as this company is well-known to give 25-30% less than the market rate. Very little chance of career movement/development, as they treat Brisbane campus like a 'stepchild' and career progressions mostly & regularly happen in Sydney. Very very poor and slow commission payment management. Very poor HR conduct and practices. You're expected to perform outside of your position descriptions, or else you will be labelled as a 'very bad team player' and disqualified.

An important role that strongly supported my career development.
The good thingsSupportive workplace. Approachable leaders and a friendly team. Enjoyable staff events. Opportunities to learn
The challengesMore clear, well-established systems of recognition for good work, effort, and reliability
