King of Knives and Chef King stores carry only the best quality kitchen knives. Knives generally come either individually or as a set or block set. Whilst brands like Bismarck, Wusthof, Brasilia and Ran represent great quality and value for money, the right knife for you is as individual as your hand. We have it all from European style to Jananese and from steel to ceramic.Source: This is an extract from the company's own website.

What’s it like working at King of Knives?

    AI summary of recent reviews

King of Knives is a locally owned family business, which some employees appreciate, along with a caring boss and opportunities for continual on-the-job development. Employees also enjoy reasonable staff discounts and flexible hours.

However, there are some potential challenges, such as issues with management, the need to be motivated to learn a lot of knowledge about the knives, expectations of unpaid work before and after shifts, limited job security for some roles, parking challenges with the threat of fines, negligible training, limited opportunities for advancement as a family-owned business, and poor communication between family members.

The challengesThere is a lot of knowledge to learn about the knives so you have to be motivated to be good at your job. It does however keep me interested.

Other King of Knives stores may have better management but be aware they expect a LOT of unpaid work from their staff.
The good thingsKing of Knives offers a reasonable staff discount on store items. The pay was reasonable for a casual salesperson.
The challengesBeing expected to work up to half an hour before and an hour afterwards without pay every shift was disappointing and unfair. When I started with the business I was assured I had ongoing work but then I found out they only wanted extra help for the busy Christmas period so was let go - this was extremely disappointing. Parking is a MAJOR issue for all staff at Grand Central Toowoomba. The threat of being fined $110 for being caught parking on the grounds when there was nowhere else to park was challenging. Training was negligible.
