    Terrible, Work ANYWHERE else!
The good thingsThe other crewmembers and some customers are great, and the discount is reasonable.
The challengesEverything. Management is lousy, changes frequently, they have no spines against higherups and there is constant cuts to staffing! Company is more interested in Image than caring about its workers or customers. Will sweep incidents of mistreatment from customers under the rug to save face and will fire staff instead of admit fault. Workers are overworked and burned out, leading to multiple issues in store from uncleanliness to lack of stock to constant thefts. Attempts to change from casual to part time are constantly met with dirty tactics and any trick they can think of to prevent conversion. Union is frequently needed to step in to help staff. Management also attempts to avoid interaction with union reps at all costs. There is frequent power play amongst managers, and they all believe they are the final say causing confusion when instructions are given to staff.

A nightmare - all day, every day
The good thingsA select few Team Members who were genuine, honest, supportive and aware of the ‘Kmart Culture’ .
The challengesThe Kmart Culture embraces and encourages Team members and Management to treat outsiders ( TM recruited externally) very badly. Outside recruits are set up to fail and heaven forbid an outsider was to bring new 🆕 ideas, it’s the Kmart way or the Highway. The company says it embodies the Kaizen approach yet is still operating from a directive developed approximately 15 years ago. It lacks the fundamental IT infrastructure but continues to bog down an over capacity IT network with even more software applications. It’s made a simple business extremely complicated and frustrating. At all levels the people are fake.

Love the people, hate the work :,)
The good thingsIt is great as a first introductory job in the retail industry since the store handles almost everything in terms of products from toys to towels. Overall great learning experience for anyone looking at getting into retail as well as overall customer service. I also loved meeting people from the area and making friendships at work! I believe this is important for young people to enjoy working a little more.
The challengesThere aren't too many skilled people on the store floor for you to lean on when the customers or returns build up which is extremely stressful since team members who are rostered on specfic areas ( Kids, Home & Clothing ) are held accountable for returning stock to their designated areas as well as assisting customers in their areas as well as handling phone calls and calls from Service Desk (collecting an item or checking the back for stock and/or the floor for stock). I really wish that this company would put at least two people per area on the shop floor as opposed to one person because it is *very* stressful.

A fast-paced and rewarding workplace where I developed strong teamwork and customer service skills
The good thingsI have enjoyed working in a fast-paced environment and learning how to serve customers effectively. The team environment has been positive and supportive, which has helped me build confidence and communication skills. I have also enjoyed developing new skills such as teamwork, time management, and handling different responsibilities during busy shifts
The challengesOne of the challenges has been managing busy periods, especially during sales or holiday seasons, which can sometimes feel stressful. Communication between team members during peak times could be improved to make tasks run more smoothly. In addition, clearer shift planning and task organisation could help reduce pressure and improve overall efficiency in the workplace

I MISS THIS JOB SO MUCH!!!
The good thingsI loved working here, the work was easy for most pert but being able to change departments each shift, learn new areas and upskill was incredible. large team meant everyone got along well and if you didn't it was likely you wouldn't have to deal with that person often. I miss this job.
The challengesDO NOT WORK HERE IF YOU ARE SCARED OF CONFRONTATION. you will have to deal with customer threatening situations, "Karens" and overall not so nice people, so if your considering working here ensure you have a strong backbone.

its okay as a first job, wouldn’t recommend as a long time job
The good thingsother employees are nice, most managers are friendly
The challengestraining people when they ask - took me nearly 2 years - managers can be rude and self entitled, will randomly drop your shifts, and will go from 5 shifts a week to 1 if im lucky

Great first job for teenagers, but managers are very aggressive
The good thingsReally good job for a young person. Relatively easy to learn, and flexibility with shifts around school hours. Lots of different jobs within the store to keep you learning and trying new things. Even though management is ridiculous, coworkers make it really fun. Overall, a great first job.
The challengesManagers have a power trip bossing their teenage employees around. Like, what do you mean you're 50 and yelling at me because I made a mistake with my availability? I think it's because they're older and stuck in a dead-end job, but they could learn some basic manners. It's not that deep. If you want to learn a new job in the store, it can take months to years of asking management. I was doing the same role in the store for just over a year without learning anything new, and it took a manager calling me the b-word and threatening to fire me over a small mistake to get out of that role. She never had to apologise for that either.

Casuals are casuals at Kmart, so be aware shifts are limited and there's little stability.
The good thingsOn the surface they have great values and a commitment to code of conduct, as well as cultural diversity. I felt great pride to be working for Kmart.
The challengesWhile retail is known for unstable shifts, Kmart rostering are not dependable to adopt any stability for those requiring consistent shifts. There is also a level of disparity in shift allocations. Deadlines to complete filling of shelves are inconsistent and different people have different timeframes so it can seem like management are setting you up for failure especially if they have issues with you.

Good at the beginning, then saw the reality.
The good thingsGood pay for a first job.
The challengesThe environment is TOXIC!! Management heavily favours individuals. If you are over the age of 17 on casual contracts, you are considered an expense and will get limited shifts. If you aren't a favourite, don't even bother, cause all they will give you is a 3-hour shift.

Okay for a first job, but I would never work here again.
The good thingsFlexibility, pay was good,
The challengesRude upper staff and management. Reduced me to tears at times, even when I was just asking a question. I don't know what it's like there now, but it was toxic and gave me trauma and I felt underappreciated.

There are good and bad days, completely dependent on how busy it is, who your managers are, and what your role is.
The good thingsFlexible shifts, some roles were better than others (e.g. service desk), sometimes there were sweet treats in tea room.
The challengesBeing rostered on presso continuously when new hires were getting trained on other roles. Lots of favouritism with training and giving shifts out. Some coworkers outright rude, especially managers when you just want to ask for help.

Good first job for teens that want to be in retail, rather than hospitalityMany different areas you can work in and pretty cool people! However, the minimum wage, short shifts, and benefits aren't that good. You don't get recognised for your work unless you have reached a time employed milestone or if you get recommended by a customer.

Work is decent, but sloppy management.
The good thingsI get to work out back, we have music playing, and we have a very efficient workflow. I like getting small bonuses every couple of months, and my discount is handy, especially if you shop a lot at Kmart.
The challengesSometimes my coworkers don't follow work rules and may be reckless when working or may not say very work-appropriate things. We have a survey every year that asks about your workplace experiences, and after writing about it, nothing is ever done, and the managers don't take reports seriously.

Disregard the PR fluff Kmart puts on LinkedIn - its a horrible place to work
The good thingsProximity to work if you live in the south eastern suburbs
The challengesSenior Leadership within HR don't live the values and treats staff very poorly. A small group of people who are close to senior leadership are part of the club and treated well. Management is very poor and unsupportive. Success is linked to politics.

Working at Kmart was a valuable experience where I learned important skills like customer service, teamwork, and time management while handling tasks like restocking and working as a cashier.
The good thingsI enjoyed working as a cashier and restocking at Kmart. As a cashier, I helped customers and improved my communication skills. Restocking was satisfying, as I organised shelves and made sure my section stayed neat. Both roles taught me valuable skills like time management and teamwork.
The challengesRestocking at Kmart could be challenging because it involved heavy lifting and long hours on my feet. As a cashier, managing long queues and dealing with difficult customers sometimes made the job stressful. Both roles required attention to detail and staying focused during busy times.

The job itself isnt so hard whether you are at registers or at the door, but it mentally drains you as you may have to work with rude customers or generally ignorant managers People whether that be managers or customers act like you are inferior or incompetent because you work at a retail and really want you to think for them because majority of the time they are too lazy Managers like to use you for any type of job and get extremely mad when you are trying to catch your breath because you arent "working" when you are resting for 5 mins They dont really explain or teach you much and expect you to automatically know everything, if you can lower your self respect and expect people to use you like a ragdoll the salary isnt too bad, but in the beginning expect 1-2 days of shifts that are 3 hours long at max..
The good thingsThe hourly pay is relatively high when compared to other retails Not that complicated of a job Some team members are pretty cool Not much of physical exhaustion
The challengesManagers are usually pretty weird and they constantly want you to "work" one second the registers are relatively free of customers and they think you are "lacking" so they give you the bad jobs like picking up products Some employees are ridiculously competitive Customers are so lazy and carefree

The good thingsStaff were very friendly, work was enjoyable and changed regularly to keep it interesting.
The challengesOnce you turn 18 your shifts cut dramatically. Doesn't matter how dedicated you are or how much you've proved yourself it tends to go unnoticed in regards to management.
