What’s it like working at Mulgrave Private Hospital?

    AI summary of recent reviews

The hospital benefits from having dedicated supportive colleagues who work well together, creating a family-like atmosphere in some departments. The location is convenient for many staff, with free parking available, and some departments have implemented effective recognition programmes to acknowledge staff contributions.

However, the hospital faces several operational challenges, including the impact of frequent management changes on workplace stability. Staff report experiencing high workload demands with unrealistic expectations, and some specialist unit staff express concern about being required to work across different departments. These factors have contributed to workplace satisfaction challenges.

Mulgrave VIC 31704 to 5 years in the role, current employee
Burnt out. Like most staff, morale is low. Disappointed. Job dissatisfaction.
The good thingsFree onsite parking. Supplied free uniform - unless want extra that is determined by FT, PT etc. Friendly front/ED reception staff. Pockets of friendly staff on the different wards. Weekday permanent cleaners - friendly & helpful. The OG orderlies (now only 3) are good & efficient. Pay is bit better since 2024 strike/negotiations. Thankful for the job opportunity and learnt experience from working.
The challengesFast turn over with staff, especially management rolls & general impression that staff are replaceable. Too often poor skill mixes of nursing staff on ward, which delays 2 person checks, flow of work, increases stress, adds work load. Low staff morale, high stress. Warranted frustration of senior staff due to poor ratios, skill mixes, under staffed, concerns dismissed. Management always finding flaws but never wanting to hear real feedback. Higher management focussed on getting $$$ & stakeholders. More often than not shortages with stock supply & medication. Hard to get genuine support. Up skilling is difficult - a lot of cancellation, rescheduling of sessions. Once deployed to specific ward, near impossible to move to different speciality. If EN, tend to be first to move wards to cover sick leave/short staff. Delays with sign offs for grad nurses to do 2 nurse checks. Overseas nurses, if were employed to work in ICU/CCU/PACU, don't be surprised if your actually deployed elsewhere.

The good thingsAverage salary compared to government standards
The challengesBe careful when applying to this workplace. They will hire you to work in DSU, PACU, CCU or ICU but will send you to other areas/WARDS every now and then.
