Great at the start but heavy decline towards the end
The good thingsI enjoyed the staff I worked with over the years, this created a great positive environment and the job itself, helping patients with glasses was enjoyable and learning the optical industry. The first few years we’re the absolute best an it was a good company, I miss the old days where we came in and did a great job without all the extra pressure and stress in which this organisation has become.
The challengesI had been in the organisation for many years, things went downhill drastically after Covid, too much tracking of absolutely everything you can imagine!!! Too much pressure on everyone, monthly audits to having uncomfortable conversations with your staff as to why their KPI’s weren’t perfect every single time. Gone are the days of true and genuine customer service, as if you offer the patient the options and they decide to go for something less expensive you sit there and in the back of your mind you are stressed because at the end of the day you are worried you haven’t reported that you’ve done enough “Varilux XR Pro” or digital this and that extra 2nd pair for the fear of a put down at the next manager meeting is promising. Also to add to that, the pay for what we have to do is terrible and not reflecting of the workload. When a colleague of over 40 years retired and they did nothing for them when leaving no bye, no thanks, no gift.

    Looking to leave ASAP.
The good thingsMaking friends, caring for patients.
The challengesQuite literally everything. Everything is scrutinised, second guessed and you put up with daily toxic KPI burnout culture. Trust me, it's not worth it. The most toxic optometry company that exists in Australia.

Wish I'd left long before I did.
The good thingsWorking with luxury brands, some of the colleagues you meet, lots to learn initially to keep you interested.
The challengesYou are just a number. I worked for the company for many years but expereince is not rewarded or appreciated. Wages are incredibly low for dispensers given the amount of skill and knowledge needed to perform the role properly, and the company are forever finding ways to undercut their staff -- from reducing loading on weekends, late nights etc, to expecting the same amount of work out of one staff member, which years ago would be performed by three or more people. The pressure is huge, you will be left alone in stores constantly even though you're being paid at a level that by their own EA agreements says you should be supervised, and they will find a way to make you leave once they are mandated to pay you more. Nepotism is also rife. Avoid this company, and certainly don't give them more than a year or two.
