I've felt a deep sense of disappointment lately. In less than three months, I received no training or constructive feedback, which left me feeling unsupported and unsure about my role. To make matters worse, my position was changed without any prior discussion or explanation. It’s disheartening to be in a situation where I feel overlooked and unvalued.
The good thingsLoadings on work hours for shop floor operators, fitters, and electricians reflect an experienced team with extensive technical knowledge.
The challengesAlmost everything is old. The line runs because of the shop floor knowledge, but the staff team must improve, especially in people management.

Great pay eventually, but poor culture and no career growthThe pay is decent if you can work around the shift pattern and also once you’ve been there over 12 months (or longer) and finally get “Orora” training. Most of the people you work with directly on shift are genuine and easy to get along with, which helps get through the shift. That said, upper management is completely disconnected from the floor. There’s a toxic, departmentalised culture that’s only getting worse. Safety concerns are often brushed aside, and there’s zero development or progression for tradespeople — especially disheartening for younger trades on the shifts trying to get experience. (As an electrician I did minimal work relating to my trade - hence why I moved on, also HR treatment was horrible) I would recommend using this job as a stepping stone and not getting overly comfortable, whilst you wait for a better job to come up on seek (keep this app on your phone)

There are far better employers out there. Rotten culture
The good thingsWhat can I say that's good about Orora Dandenong, not much to be honest. Best thing about working there is leaving at the end of each day.
The challengesManagement are incompetent company men that don't appreciate their trades or operators. If you like being overworked & under appreciated then this could be your gig. Poor culture with plenty of politics & ego's. Present themselves as a polished leading manufacturer but run like a rodeo.

    Culture fit or culture fix?
The good thingsI have been fortunate to work alongside some truly remarkable individuals. It’s the people that make an organisation invaluable.
The challengesStanding up for honesty and integrity can sometimes be mistaken for being problematic. It's crucial to remain steadfast in your values, fostering a workplace where transparency and truth are valued over complacency and deceit.

    An experience id rather forget.
The good thingsColleagues were passionate and hardworking and spent the time to help me develop.
The challengesAt the Gawler site, there was a general unwillingness to acknowledge or address serious breaches of safety or quality. The culture was extremely toxic with gaslighting, manipulation, and dismissive and threatening behaviours from management. Work was quite dangerous with a blaze safety culture.

Best move I have made to transition from the food industry to be part of a growing organization like Orora, loving the challenge to learn a different industry while using my existing skills.
The good thingsExcellent on boarding process from start to finish and great induction period that allowed me to transition into the business and my role with as few bumps as possible. Very knowledgeable factory team and are willing to share knowledge.
The challengesTotally new process to learn but based on previous experience there are actually a lot of standard principles that can be used it is just knowing when to utilize them. Long standing business with very high tenure of personnel on the floor. Takes time to find where your skill set will adds most value.

There's shift managers there that will tell you, you are paid to much for what you do. Never seen such a depletion in morale and such a toxic workplace before.
The good thingsMake slightly more money than similar jobs if you manage to get full time.
The challenges12 hr rotating day night shift roster, hot conditions, hard to be granted annual leave. Out of touch management.

    Orora Gawler experience
The good thingsThere are some good people working there, you will find with conditions like they are people out out for each other.
The challengesSome years ago Orora was a great place to work however, now, easily the most toxic workplace I have ever worked. The Gawler plant truely do not care about the people they employ and as a result people are leaving in droves. As people leave they aren’t replaced and as the workload grows it’s just piled on, all for your development. The wages are well below standard and they do not reflect the expectations or workload of the role. There are deep seeded cultural issues and until there is upward change they won’t change.

I think it's one of the best places one can work in. Very hands on leaders who are involved in almost every bit of the journey. The growth opportunities can be a bit limited, given the flat structure.
The good thingsVery agile and flexible. Empowering for the employees. Great culture, very intelligent staff and the passion and energy in this company is just relentless.
The challengesVery flat structure, so can be really hectic at times. Actual work and job descriptions can have a mismatch due to a flat structure.
