Values and culture in this company are questionable!
The good thingsSome lovely staff and fellow dentists.
The challengesToxic work environment with absolutely no respect for the Dentists bringing in the revenue. Their feedback is not valued and constantly turned back! Centre leader lacks leadership skills and qualities to lead a team that would show accountability! No support from higher management. No care for patient outcomes!

    Soul destroying and exhausting
The good thingsMade some nice friends
The challengesEverything could be improved. Toxic work environment. Back stabbing, gaslighting, passive aggressive and gossipy. Centre leader the worst of them all. Complaining to higher management doesn’t help either. When I spoke up I was singled out and ghosted off the roster.

There is good reason there are always jobs here…..they can’t keep staff.
The good thingsLiterally nothing I can’t think of.
The challengesThe most horrible workplace I have ever experienced. Regional Manager gaslit, was incredibly rude and nasty to me and made my life a misery in a brand new role that I do my absolute best to learn in. The back stabbing and below par behaviour of upper management was a disgrace. If you’re applying for a role, scroll past it. There is a reason it’s available!! There is a reason there is a high turn over of staff. I would go days without breaks to ensure my team had their break. This was still “frowned upon”, when I made sure they were having breaks!!??? Run, don’t walk away from this horrible workplace environment.

Capalaba, Victoria Point and Cleveland Avoid. The currrent 2.6 star rating is generous.
The good thingsThe other dental assistance and a couple of the providers
The challengesI have worked at many practices over 26 years and this is the worst practice I've experienced. Management/Leadership on all levels and some providers. Unprofessional and divisive, actively persue poor morale instead of forging a united team environment. No interest in paitent or staff wellbeing, only concerned in corporate business. Poor communication and roster scheduling. Shifts scheduled without notice up to hours in advance, sometimes as late as 11pm the previous day including on days that have already been marked as unavailable. Accusations of dishonesty made to entire staff of all 3 practices. Recent management change has only made these issues worse.

Do not work here if you value your mental health
The good thingsThe staff and dentists are lovely. I have made some life long friends from working there. I also got very good training in the beginning from an amazing senior DA
The challengesManagers. The centre manager was the most patronising and aggressive person I have ever met. Having people like that in management positions and the poor pay is what causes the high staff turnover. I would rather be unemployed than work in such a toxic environment. The worst part is the company knows all about her and ignore it

The good thingsgreat team culture, supportive management, nice dentists to work with, pays on time, opportunity to grove. Benefits of being part of the big company as ongoing training is available either online or 1:1 by center leader.

A company that doesn’t care about you, or their patients.
The good thingsThey’re always hiring because they have such a large staff turnover so it’s really easy to get a job. They clean things well.
The challengesThe management does not care about you. I ended up in hospital after finishing a shift and the manager threatened to fire me instead of being supportive. I dreaded going to work everyday. Honestly the worst place I’ve ever worked. Also the constant complaints from patients due to lack of sympathy from the dentists got ridiculous, and the practice manager just kept trying to sweep things under the rug. So dodgy. 0/10 would not recommend working here even if you’re desperate.

Staff and dentists are not valued or treated well by management
The good thingsSome of the staff and dentists were kind and genuine.
The challengesAwful and heartless upper management. They don't care about anyone, they only care about money. They treat staff and dentists unfairly. I would not recommend working here.

    Avoid at all costs.
The good thingsThe support from coworkers.
The challengesThe pay is just short of exploitation. Middle managers have their head in the sand and don't want to listen to feedback. The volume of work your expected to manage is again just short of exploitation.

"A dynamic and supportive environment that offers valuable real-world experience in dental assisting."
The good thingsWorking at Pacific Smiles Dental has given me the opportunity to develop hands-on skills in a supportive and fast-paced clinical environment. The team is friendly, professional, and always willing to help. I’ve learned a lot about chairside assisting, infection control, and patient care.
The challengesAt times, the pace can be very fast, especially during emergency bookings or back-to-back procedures. It can be physically demanding to be on your feet for long hours. Occasionally, coordinating front-desk responsibilities along with clinical duties can feel a bit overwhelming without enough support

I am really happy. 13 years across 4 centres.
The good thingsMy centre leader is very supportive and flexible.
The challengesPatient demand is high and sometimes they have unrealistic expectations on us squeezing them in as we are “corporate” it’s a shame patients don’t realise our dentist are people too.

    Toxic Environment for Staff
The good thingsNot much positive to report at all
The challengesUnrealistic pressure and expectations, toxic place to work with people being undermined. Exec team is a joke and thrive on misalignment between their words and actions. Was seriously one of the best days of my working career the day I walked out of that place for the last time.

Good for experience. Not much else.
The good thingsPerks would be fitness passport and finding friendships. PSD do train well.
The challengesYou can go from 10 shifts in the fortnight to literally one or none the next week if casual. There is no consistency but yet every where is short staffed. Can be toxic if the centre has cliques and management don't really care.

Fine for a temporary uni job if you're a casual. No progression in your role if you want to become full time.
The good thingsWas trained very well by really good dental assistants and had the opportunity to train future dental assistants.
The challengesZero support to centre managers from regional managers. Constant pressure to fill up all rooms with a dentist every day despite being severely short staffed. Dental assistants feeling guilty when calling in sick or not being able to work a shift and having to find our own cover from other practices.
