No one wants to work but I love that I work here.
The good thingsLove the pets and people. Management are super understanding and flexible.
The challengesWoolworths has bought the company and are driving KPIs to an almost unobtainable level.

They will use you up until they don't need you anymore.
The good thingsThe team are very kind, nice to interact with customers that actually care about their animals. I love being able to help pet owners and recommend things that are actually going to benefit their animals.
The challengesManagement don't care about their employees, only about KPI's. You only feel supported working there when you mean something to management, otherwise you get rostered no shifts even though they always need people. Only care about the profits and not about providing people with what is actually good for their animals. Management do not care if you're not comfortable working with someone if they are helping the business, all issues just get ignored. They have turned everyone into robots that work there and customers are becoming less inclined to come back. The company does not care about the pets that they sell in any regard and are not willing to do what is necessary to ensure that they are cared for correctly.

Profits over People and Pets. Where Profits are family.
The good thingsThe team and the animals, providing care to customers and educating them in turn making sure their pets receive the best care.
The challengesThe company was great to work for prior to Woolworths taking over, KPI's shoved down peoples throats and forced to upsell home brands which we don't actually personally recommend. Management are all useless and Head Office specifically hire people they can manipulate. The least diverse company to work for and they don't care.

Great at first until kpi obsession came into play.
The good thingsMy manager was the only thing helping me hold myself together at work as she is such an amazing and caring woman who dedicates her time to helping maintain high customer service instead of prioritising corporate hungry methods of tiring customers out into consuming more unneeded products in order to meet kpi targets. Customer service should be prioritised more than money as at the end of the day we are all people who are struggling in this economy and deserve to be treated as people and not dollar signs.
The challengesKpi expectations are too extreme and are driving many staff such as my self to find new jobs and remove themselves from the toxic money hungry environment. Petstock has turned itself into a place of robot workers having to say a million things to customers before finally allowing them to purchase their items. The questions of are you a member at petstock, are you and everyday rewards member, are you interested in the treat of the month, have you heard of this special, you can buy more of this to get pet cash that’s barely helping your financial difficulties, and how are you paying today? After all these questions you see the customers become more irritated and annoyed giving them the thought of not wanting to return as these in human conversations are dystopian.

KPI driven, no recognition, a lot of favoritism.
The good thingsthe team was amazing, i loved the culture and regular customers and all the animals that come into the store
The challengesless foul language used in store, higher management, unrealistic expectations, no recognition, taking safety seriously for both physical and mental, not treating staff as if they are just a number.

    So many shifts go unfilled
The good thingsStore teams for the most part are amazing and the regular customers and animals that come in often make me smile
The challengesIt's so casualised and managers/stores are always screaming out for shifts to be filled.... most of the time they go unfilled. Those who do pick up extra shifts are then often unavailable to pick up even more shifts.

Good job for gaining experience and learning industry. Bad job if you’re looking for full time work.
The good thingsThe Animals, some of the customers, some of the people I met at different stores and the job security (Job security was personal to me and may not be the same to others).
The challengesLearning more things in the job was almost impossible since management kept ignoring my attempts to enhance my knowledge, keeping managers in the salons seemed to be a challenge, witnessing a toxic work environment (some other salons had very bad management-worker relationships and just coworkers all together), getting any help from upper management (anything above store manager) was almost impossible, even with a direct message asking for assistance I was ignored.

My advice: don’t work here unless you want to be overworked, undervalued, and miserable
The good thingsThe customers and pets, I loved getting to know my regulars, and being able to help new pet owners or dogs with allergies/nutrition issues. Learnt new things about animals everyday.
The challengesUpper management operates like a popularity contest—success is based on whose ego can be stroked the hardest rather than genuine leadership. Raising questions or voicing concerns is pointless; instead of being heard, you’ll be met with hostility and made to feel like your job is at risk.

No work/life balance and I chose to accept a lower position with reduced pay at another company to leave the work environment at PETstock.
The good thingsOne of the most rewarding aspects of the role was working alongside dedicated staff and building genuine relationships with regular customers and their pets.
The challengesWhile there are some positive aspects to the role, my experience was impacted by several ongoing issues. There were frequent interruptions to personal time off through WhatsApp, which made it difficult to maintain a healthy work-life balance. The heavy focus on KPIs often led to unpaid overtime, as meeting expectations during regular hours was unrealistic. Upper management appeared unreceptive to feedback, continuing to increase demands without addressing existing concerns. Additionally, the compensation does not reflect the responsibilities of the role, particularly for full-time staff and those in leadership positions.

I took a pay cut and a lower position at another company to get out of the environment that was offered by PETstock.
The good thingsThe relationships with most customers and their pets, and the retail floor staff.
The challengesDirect management was extremely ego based, KPI driven and offered no support for future opportunities or work/life balance. Texts were regularly sent out of hours or to staff that weren't rostered on for a period, asking for monthly online learning to be completed ASAP on staff's own time.

Here for a good time not a long time.
The good thingsI love my the customers and the pets they bring in for us to meet, I love the perks and discount as well as I thoroughly enjoy my role.
The challengesThere's a lot of communications and updates all the time and it can be daunting and full on and sometimes unorganised, I don't think the pay is fair for what we do as we're at risk of taking home diseases and often alot of what we give an owner is life and nutrition advice frommwhat we learn. Alot is at stake but they money doesn't match the job role whether you're full-time or in management (casuals get paid well)

A positive and growth-oriented workplace that encourages collaboration but could improve internal communication.
The good thingsThe company fosters a collaborative environment with supportive team members and leadership. There are ample opportunities for professional development and growth, along with a strong emphasis on work-life balance.
The challengesSometimes communication between departments can be inconsistent, which may lead to delays in project completion. Additionally, certain processes could be more streamlined to improve efficiency.

No respect for the hard work only focused on KPIs. A lot of unpaid overtime. salary is a joke but the on the floor team are amazing.
The good thingsAnimal interactions, fellow team mates and staff discounts.
The challengesConstant interruptions to personal time off via what's app, the constant KPI focus, constant unpaid overtime as you cannot hit expectations otherwise. Never received any store visits, yet we have 3 BMs? Live animal care is reducing but still expected to have tip top enclosures. No fun anymore

Used to be an amazing job until Woolies got involved.
The good thingsDelivering a personalised shopping experience to all customers as they were all regulars. Interesting learning new things.
The challengesKPI obsessed, staff fighting over shifts, management trying to have all staff able to do grooming, puppy school, sales and maintenance so that they can roster fewer people on at a time.

    Toxic KPI competitions
The good thingsSome of the people I worked with
The challengesThe KPIs are tearing stores apart. I have been physically shoved out of the way by another staff member so they could get the customer holding a Treat of the Month at the counter. It's that toxic. And your hours depend on KPIs. Managers and 2ICs only look out for each other, you are disposable.

The animals you take care of are the only thing that saved my sanity while working here. Even the staff party was a big dissapointment.
The good things- The PETS! - my colleagues - discounts
The challengesManagement, particularly the Regional Manager have a chip on their shoulder and will use you until you can't take it anymore. Their high turnover and constant SEEK ads are a good reminder that they choose not to keep staff for a long period of time, even if you see a future with them.

management will always chew you up & spit you out - turnover is awful
The good thingsthe pets, building rapport with reps & most customers discount wasn't too bad
The challenges- my all time favourite disadvantage would have to be when i was offered more hours at a surrounding store, worked long days almost consecutively until those hours were suddenly not available anymore or "wages are short this week" meanwhile other staff were offered hours - manager constantly humiliated and degraded me daily - regional & area managers take advantage of your availability and generosity until they no longer need you - manager would tell each employee a different version of why they weren't given a significant amount of hours - would never be honest and upfront about stuff like that - manager used to humiliate me and other co workers in front of customers - would recieve complaints from customers about how poorly manager was treating us - management only cared about $$$ and treat of the month i could honestly go on for ages but that summarises enough.

Good at the start, Woolworths, KPIs and regional manager ruined it
The good thingsMy staff and the pets and the relationships with the regular customers and reps.
The challengesCompany only cares if you hit KPI’s for treat of the month and if you don’t you’re shamed in front of all the other managers. Regional manager was horrible and the impact of Woolworths is forcing the company down the drain making the stores cookie cutters. Awful unrealistic expectations and no recognition for hard work and unpaid overtime as a manager.

Great at the start, but terrible once Woolworths took over.
The good thingsThe staff and the discounts on certain products
The challengesTerrible management, the worst KPI’s with some of them being completely out of your control and others being so heavily focused on like Treat of the Month that they threaten to cut your hours if you don’t sell enough.
