What’s it like working at Richmond Fellowship Queensland?

    AI summary of recent reviews

Employees at Richmond Fellowship Queensland consistently highlight that working with clients is deeply rewarding and meaningful, with many finding this to be the most satisfying aspect of their role. Colleagues and support workers are described as dedicated, supportive and passionate, creating a positive team environment. Some employees also report having supportive and approachable management who offer flexibility and understanding, along with learning and development opportunities that support professional growth.

However, there are some potential challenges to consider. The management structure can be centralised, with decision-making concentrated at the CEO level, which may slow processes and limit managers' autonomy. Some employees observe that individuals in management positions may benefit from additional training to enhance their leadership capabilities. The workload can be demanding, with a focus on KPIs and extensive paperwork that some find challenging. Additionally, some staff feel that remuneration could be more competitive with industry standards, and that communication between departments could be improved. The organisation has experienced rapid growth and change, which has sometimes outpaced the implementation of new systems and processes, though this is reportedly improving.

I would not recommend accepting any role at RFQ
The good thingsWorking alongside clients and supporting them to achieve goals.
The challengesManagement were under-qualified, egotistical, and untrustworthy. Managers openly gloated about never finishing their degrees... and that lack of knowledge showed. Loose boundaries, mates promoting mates, little training, and poor leadership made for a dangerous and hostile workplace. The day I walked out was one of the happiest.

    Regret ever joining the organisation.
The good thingsThe clients we support
The challengesIncompetent leadership all the way to the top. Toxic culture. Lack of integrity and accountability across multiple locations due to the lack of skilled leadership trickling down.

I wish I had never accepted the job offer.
The good thingsWorking alongside clients was deeply satisfying, and the commitment of the various teams' support workers was admirable and fortifying.
The challengesSome of the managers were ill prepared for their roles, and did not operate in accordance with their professional values (i.e., witnessing a team leader shame staff who experienced mental health challenges was deeply disturbing). A couple were engaged in personal intimate relationships that weren't disclosed, which creates a minefield for staff who don't understand that there are secretive allegiances at play in the office. The CEO is overly involved in day to day operations and overrides managers' decisions. This in turn undermines worker faith in the organisation's structure (why bother tailoring a plan with your boss to address an issue if a man you've never met will step in and nullify your chosen course of action?). Finally, the organisation's current obsession with cultivating 'leadership' (the me-first, self-promoting, performative kind) undermines collective cohesion and morale. Talking to staff who felt stepped on and embarrassed by 'leaders' was a final straw for me.
