Rowville Secondary College is one great school with four strengths based learning programs. These programs include Rowville General Excellence, Rowville Maths & Science Academy, Rowville Institute of Arts and Rowville Sports Academy. Our four programs focus on the individual child and their strengths and talents.Rowville Secondary College aims to provide the highest quality education to all our students. We strive to see students leave Rowville Secondary College happy, confident and ready for success in a changing world.Rowville Secondary College officially opened in 1990 with approximately 180 students in years 7 and 8. The student population has now grown to over 1800 across two campuses. The Western Campus caters to students in years 7 to 12 in our General Excellence (GE) program, as well as being home to our Maths and Science Academy (MSA). The Eastern Campus opened in 1996 and is home to our 7 to 12 Rowville Sports Academy (RSA) and Rowville Institute of the Arts (RIA) students.Although the College is located on two campuses, Rowville Secondary College is one great school. Curriculum, policies programs, uniforms and rules are the same on both campuses and staff take consistent approaches in dealing with students. Teachers from both campuses meet together, and all curriculum planning meetings are held as one school. All College committees, including School Council, have representation from each campus so that all decisions and College directions represent the views of staff, students and parents in the College as a whole.Although the total enrolment is large, student intake at each campus is smaller than many of our neighbouring schools. Our class sizes are kept to a maximum of 26 with some classes often smaller than this figure.Students at each campus are provided with opportunities to take part in all College activities such as instrumental music, sport, outdoor education and other extracurricular activities including the always popular annual College production. We also other a variety of pathways for our senior students including VCE, VCAL, VET and SBAT.Teachers are based on one of the campuses for the school year, but are encouraged to move between campuses every few years to ensure consistency in all areas of College operation. The College staff work closely with parents and the community to ensure that these goals are achieved.Find out more about Rowville Secondary College by visiting our website: www.rowvillesc.vic.edu.au

I had a fulfilling teaching experience at a high school with a supportive colleague culture, prioritizing student and staff well-being, fostering a love for learning, but post-COVID challenges underscored the struggle to maintain a healthy work-life balance.
The good thingsI had an enriching experience teaching at a high school with a supportive colleague culture, emphasizing both student and staff well-being. Beyond academics, we prioritised life lessons, fostering resilience and confidence in students. The school offered a plethora of extracurricular opportunities, allowing students to explore their passions. I actively contributed to implementing innovative teaching methods, promoting a love for learning. Overall, it was a dynamic and fulfilling environment that valued holistic development.
The challengesWhile my experience at the high school was immensely rewarding, it's important to acknowledge the challenges that emerged, particularly in maintaining a healthy work-life balance, exacerbated by the post-COVID landscape. The demands of adapting to new teaching modalities and navigating uncertainties took a toll on the delicate equilibrium between professional and personal life. Balancing the commitment to student well-being and academic excellence became more challenging as the lines between work and personal life blurred. Despite these challenges, the collaborative and supportive colleague culture played a crucial role in navigating these difficulties and finding ways to prioritise self-care despiste the demands of teaching in a post-pandemic world.
