I found my work satisfying, but the culture within admin/management is toxic. I was happy to leave.
The good thingsI enjoyed the staff that I worked with and helping students was very enjoyable and satisfying.
The challengesManagement/admin. is very top heavy and they do not listen to, or value their employees. HR was dreadful, they did not investigate issues or follow up with staff when an incident occurred. Management/admin. is full of tight cliques. Fine if you are in the inner circle, if not, then you will be treated differently and not supported. I did not feel respected in my role and felt that the workplace was very toxic. There are a lot of unhappy staff members and widespread disharmony within departments. It wasn't until I left St. Rita's and started at a new workplace that I realised how much St. Rita's did not support or value the contribution made by their staff. It was being treated with respect and consideration at my new workplace that showed me just how poorly St. Rita's treated it's staff.

Not a great culture. Leadership team is toxic and thrive on backstabbing staff who make progress.
The good thingsThe students are mostly lovely.
The challengesBoard intervention to expenditure. Not nearly enough to teaching resources, but heaps to admin.

A toxic culture is allowed to thrive here!
The good thingsThe school has a few of the most passionate teachers I have ever met which was refreshing. Some lovely, delightful humans for students that were a pleasure to teach.
The challengesThe toxic culture of some staff and enabling of some students ruins the potential this school has to be amazing. The politics and power dynamics of some of those in admin, the Arts, and English really is disgraceful. Such a shame that those toxic few are allowed to thrive by leadership. I feel for the students that deserve so much better!

A toxic and stifling work environment
The good thingsNice facilities, interviews from home, students have a lot of fundraising opportunities
The challengesThis workplace is toxic, unkind, and resistant to change. Collaboration is nonexistent, with teams operating in silos and innovation discouraged. Management prioritises maintaining the status quo over growth and staff retention, leaving no room for professional development or trust. If you value respect, enjoyment at works teamwork, and opportunity, look elsewhere.

I felt a warm welcome from the College from day one.
The good thingsSt Rita's is a small but thriving College that has the time and means to value each and every one of its employees. I rarely find myself not knowing another employee at the College, and when I do, it's not for long. The school clearly values it's staff and the tight knit community that it's fostered, even through a period of growth.
The challengesThe work is fast-paced but follows a pretty standard cadence. I've felt supported in times when the workload has increased.
