Do yourself a favour - run far away.
The good thingsMost of my colleagues were amazing. The money was good as long as you stayed casual. The house manager did her best.
The challengesHR and management were insensitive and incompetent, there were little to no process guidelines for several months of the service opening. Ideas for improvements were shut down, and serious safety issues were ignored or took months to attend to. The rostering was a joke, and several times staff were asked to sign wavers when rostered or requested to work without the mandatory 10 hour break in between shifts.

    Worst higher up management EVER
The good thingsThe volunteers and customers
The challengesManagement is what’s needed to have an overhaul, from area managers to operations to higher up. All about chasing the dollar and not about the welfare of staff. Put into situations of working alone whilst doing close, working with no power, working in OHS situations with over flowing donations. They sit in offices and wouldn’t have a clue what staff have to deal with. The donations that come in thick and fast and we aren’t meant to stop donations even if it cause your store rooms to be overflowing in crates, cages and on the floor! Unrealistic budgets for stores that aren’t busy with customers!! Whole system has lost sight of what it’s meant to be for. The needy..

It’s a place where you can build, grow, contribute & make a real difference in the lives of others.
The good thingsI’ve really enjoyed the opportunity to collaborate and build with the teams that make up Vinnies. There’s a strong sense of shared purpose, and it’s rewarding to work alongside long-standing volunteers and staff who are committed to making a positive difference in the community. Being part of that teamwork and seeing the collective impact we can have on people’s lives makes working at Vinnies truly meaningful.
The challengesLike many not-for-profit organisations, there are challenges around how funding is prioritised and where it can make the most impact. Communication is something that’s continually improving, and there’s a genuine effort to listen, learn, and adapt as the organisation grows.

The good things assisting clients get back on their feet
The challengeswatching management use staff because they need to. Allowing clients to disrespect workers without repercussion.

The good thingsThe only redeeming factor of this job is the nice customers and colleagues.
The challengesDisorganised management. Lack of communication between management levels. No cares for your physical or mental well-being. Strong emphasis on making budgets
