What’s it like working at St Vincent de Paul?

    AI summary of recent reviews

Employees at St Vincent de Paul find their work meaningful and rewarding, particularly in helping people in need and making a positive difference in the community. There is a strong sense of teamwork and collaboration amongst colleagues, volunteers, and staff who share a common purpose. Staff also appreciate the positive relationships they build with customers and fellow team members.

However, there are some potential challenges, including communication between management levels which can be inconsistent, though efforts are being made to improve this. Employees have noted difficulties with managing high volumes of donations and meeting budget expectations, particularly in quieter stores. Some staff feel there is a strong emphasis on financial targets, which can sometimes feel at odds with the organisation's charitable mission. Additionally, workspace organisation and operational systems could benefit from improvement to better support staff in their daily work.

Do yourself a favour - run far away.
The good thingsMost of my colleagues were amazing. The money was good as long as you stayed casual. The house manager did her best.
The challengesHR and management were insensitive and incompetent, there were little to no process guidelines for several months of the service opening. Ideas for improvements were shut down, and serious safety issues were ignored or took months to attend to. The rostering was a joke, and several times staff were asked to sign wavers when rostered or requested to work without the mandatory 10 hour break in between shifts.

    Worst higher up management EVER
The good thingsThe volunteers and customers
The challengesManagement is what’s needed to have an overhaul, from area managers to operations to higher up. All about chasing the dollar and not about the welfare of staff. Put into situations of working alone whilst doing close, working with no power, working in OHS situations with over flowing donations. They sit in offices and wouldn’t have a clue what staff have to deal with. The donations that come in thick and fast and we aren’t meant to stop donations even if it cause your store rooms to be overflowing in crates, cages and on the floor! Unrealistic budgets for stores that aren’t busy with customers!! Whole system has lost sight of what it’s meant to be for. The needy..
