What’s it like working at Thomson Adsett Architects?

    AI summary of recent reviews

Thomson Adsett Architects stands out for its positive workplace culture, characterised by friendly and supportive colleagues who work collaboratively. The company offers excellent flexibility with work-from-home options, and maintains well-located offices with modern amenities. Employees appreciate the professional development opportunities available through varied projects and the ability to work across different offices.

However, the company faces some operational challenges, including the need for more structured management processes and clearer business planning. The competitive nature of the architecture industry can create challenging work conditions, and some employees note that salary progression can be difficult to achieve, even with strong performance reviews.

Enjoyable place to go to work every day. Great people to have a laugh with when time permitted. Would not recommend it to anyone looking for a serious career opportunity unless they're ready to exhaust themselves, or anyone who has worked for progressive companies in the past. The people were great but held back by old-style management and archaic views of how business is done and how companies are run.
The good thingsThe staff were amazing, kind, and sincere people to work with. They work hard and want to see projects successfully delivered for their clients. There was plenty of opportunity to work collaboratively if you were in the bigger offices, everyone was approachable. There were opportunities to climb the ladder if you worked hard enough. Staff retention exists for this reason. Some of the projects delivered will continue to provide communities with a better life for years to come. The offices seemed well-connected to nearby infrastructure. Flexible working included a 2-day WFH policy. Wellness/Mothers/Prayer room available in the Brisbane office.
The challengesManagement was messy. There was no obvious business plan and it seemed there were different agendas causing inconsistencies and decisions to be stalled or dismissed entirely. Energy was drained on tedious tasks that could easily have been eliminated. More resources are required to free up those doing long hours over trivial outcomes. Burnout was at an all-time high. There was a lack of culture around the acknowledgment of good work. Bonuses were non-existent and staff performance reviews were missed. No real commitment to sustainability, diversity, or keeping up with industry trends. No real commitment to knowledge sharing or mentorship. There were definitely a few people trying to turn this around and do the best they could with what they could access.
