If you’re considering applying here, Don’t do it! The worst workplace of my career
    The good thingsFlexible WFH Structure
The challengesThe lack of leadership from management was consistently evident and contributed to a poor workplace culture creating a disengaging and frustrating environment. The overall culture was something I was really disappointed with, when starting management made the culture out to be supportive and welcoming yet it was incredibly antisocial and toxic especially from sales teams. Opportunities for progression were extremely limited, with little willingness to support staff development or career growth. Training was also lacking, with managers relying heavily on second-in-charge staff rather than actively developing their teams. There appeared to be a strong focus on protecting managers instead of listening to team members and team leads were repeatedly given chances without improvement which resulted in very low team morale. Customer service teams were also regularly overloaded with work that could have been handled by other teams with little effort of the other teams to assist.

Leadership and culture need serious improvement
The good thingsThe people i have met here.
The challengesI joined expecting a professional workplace with supportive leadership & a People & Culture team that would ensure fair and confidential processes. Unfortunately, the reality was very different. Gaslighting, gossip, backstabbing & dishonesty from management appeared to be normalised. Ineffective management often seemed more focused on discussing staff negatively behind their backs to team members than actually leading their teams. The handling of employee concerns raised serious questions about confidentiality, fairness and accountability. Rather than acting as an impartial safeguard for staff, People & Culture appeared more aligned with protecting management including misrepresentation & dishonesty. They heavily contribute directly to the same toxic culture. In my 26yr working career, i have never witnessed such unprofessionalism & lack of integrity in a workplace. Anyone considering working here should look very carefully at the workplace culture before accepting a role.

Beware: Game of Thrones. You get all the accountability with no job control or livable wage.
The good thingsThe free cereal, some of the people were nice.
The challengesThis is a vicious, soul destroying environment. Hostile management, terrible money, terrible changes. Don't be fooled, a tight knit team is code for incestous cult. You will not be valued. Do not being up improvements as they don't care. There is no such thing as disruptive thinking and only the lowest paid are crazy about their customers. Management is busy day drinking.

Apart from the above its a great place to work and I would highly recommend it. You have to be strong minded and love to be challenged every day with all the system and process nuances but people are great and everyone is striving to work towards reaching the goals of the business
The good thingsPeople are lovely and very helpful, culture, flexibility with work life balance Onboarding is sensational
The challengesAs a new starter unless you have someone assisting you step by step on how to deliver a product you are completely lost. There are no good how to guides that advise you how to run with orders for different product types. The systems dont talk to each other and are so static its frustrating. If there is something wrong with an order (even the slightest thing) you have to withdraw the whole order and get customer to sign another one which is time consuming esp with customer deadlines. As a new person coming in the processes and systems are so convoluted and half the sales orders you receive into the ordering system are incorrect

While I worked there I would have ranked it a 4/5 until post-covid when it spiralled into a hostile environment due to several factors such as bought out by private firm, TPG acquisition, external hires who despised existing culture and people, obsession with return to office and policing staff on attendance, and a complete lack of appreciation for anyone who goes above and beyond if you don't also sell your soul to play 'the game' and just try to be your authentic self. Overall it's better than most telcos but that's not saying much if this company is a highlight, the industry is unstable and terribly managed in every single telco company as they struggle to keep up with rapid changes to tech and their terrible system integrations, it's not unique to Vocus - Telstra still can't get their SF deployment right for consumers.
The good thingsLots of good people Used to be relaxed with dress code, flex work, doing things differently
The challengesSycophants, backstabbers Devolved into people turning on others and playing games to get ahead No appreciation for long-term staff. Massive wage disparities - new staff in lower positions paid higher DEI-captured HR team. As LGB member, didn't wear it as a badge but it protects those who unfairly.

A company that in still requiring a lot of maturing in it's operations especially in the energy space. Overall the culture and the people are good, however the work itself can be quite frustrating at times with generally a lack of staff. This means there are a lot more ad hoc activities that need to be completed by individuals.
The good thingsGreat are generally great and good hybrid working conditions. There is usually fruit in the kitchen, cereals and in general friendly colleagues.
The challengesA lot of office politics and sometimes a lack of responsibility/accountability from management, lack of solid processes and at times lack of resources meaning you absorb work that is not within your remit and scramble to complete what should be usually done by other roles in other companies.

It's refreshing to work for a carrier that takes both the security and stability of their network, and the conditions of their staff into consideration.
The good thingsThe people are great. The conditions are outstanding. Managers actually listen to what you have to say, not just smiling and nodding and ignoring you.
The challengesI can't really think of any of the top of my head. Compared to other carriers that I've worked for, things seem to run well here.

Potential let down by politics and poor management.
The good thingsCompany is good at building city fibre networks.
The challengesThe company’s middle management are all conservative males in their 50s who will do anything to keep those below them in lower positions. Politics and actively undermining your colleagues for personal gain is rife across the organisation.

Was a great place to work until early 2023 but has become short term focused to the detriment of the wellbeing of its people.
The good thingsThe people, ambitious company targets, not too big - opportunity to contribute, employees not concentrated to single state, supports remote working.
The challengesShort term focused, transformation to growth failing so redundancies becoming regular, HR processes weak / immature, people taken for granted.

A great place to work which continues to improve over time.
The good thingsGreat flexible working policy. Plenty of work life balance. Management very understanding of personal challenges and provide support and understanding when needed. Feel challenged enough in the role to not be bored but don't feel like they ask too much of me. Great city location close to the train station. Some cool perks like free breakfast, fruit and coffee in the office.
The challengesSometimes there could be more alignment on strategic direction however transparency has improved dramatically over the last couple of years.

If you want to belong somewhere professionally as you add value and do your thing – look no further, Vocus has got you covered.
The good thingsThere is something special about Vocus that I can’t quite put my finger on. While the culture is great, the work is engaging, and senior leaders are awesome - I think it’s a novel kind of ‘care factor for people’ that really sets this place apart. One of Vocus’ core values is ‘People Are the Difference’ and my goodness have they nailed this! For anyone who is considering Vocus as their next move, you’d be outright crazy not to seriously consider it.
The challengesNot really a challenge, more an opportunistic upside – some practices are less mature.

    Look elsewhere
The good thingsGood work-life balance, nice offices
The challengesMiddle management will be the downfall of this place. You aren't empowered to make decisions or run with your ideas. Leadership has no strategy so you have no idea what you're working towards. C-suite is tone deaf around covid and return to work. They talk about being a "challenger brand," but really just want to be a Telstra and the employees reflect that. Pay is below market rate.
