A Dynamic Workplace with a Strong Community Focus.
The good thingsThere is a shared commitment to excellence, innovation, and student success. The school fosters a collaborative and professional environment where staff are supported to thrive in their roles. It also provides ongoing professional development opportunities, allowing staff to grow.
The challengesThe school is quite large so walking from one end to the other makes for a good break from sitting at your desk. It's not that I don't like it - it's great for the step count.

A supportive work environment with great opportunities for career growth and personal development.
The good thingsWorking at Westbourne has been a rewarding experience. It is a supportive work environment with lots of opportunity for career growth and personal development. My contributions feel valued, and management is approachable.
The challengesLike any workplace, the fast-paced nature of the role can sometimes be demanding, but that is the reality of working in Education.

    Awful dealing with management
The good thingsGreat salary. Some great kids and some great programs they are able to do.
The challengesHorrible HR department. Dozens of staff have left in the last year that is not reflected in the recent 5 star reviews. Poor communication from the Exec team to the union on EA agreements and renegging on promises. It is not a supportive place to work.

Purposeful work, being valued and having a sense of belonging, builds loyalty.
The good thingsIncredibly supportive, professional and people centered. Have built enduring relationships, felt valued and trusted and have felt the work we do is purposeful.
The challengesOver ten years change is inevitable and negotiating changing can sometimes be hard, but the tools and resources for wellbeing have always been available to me.

    Overwhelmingly positive.
The good thingsI have been with this school for several years, and I can confidently say it is the best school I have worked in. The opportunities for growth and development are incredible. The Executive team's strong leadership is evident in the positive changes and continuous improvements we see across the board. Their faith in younger staff to be able to take on significant leadership and management roles make it like no other independent school I am aware of. I feel seen, valued, and supported.
The challengesThere are a small number of toxic staff members that management needs to address for the betterment of all staff, students, and families.

Since I have begun my career at Westbourne Grammar, I have been welcomed with open arms, encouraged, supported and empowered. I am excited to see the School continue to grow and succeed. The Management Team are dynamic and innovative, fostering a culture of growth and learning.
The good thingsThere are too many good things to list. From an Executive Assistant perspective, I am really enjoying the transition into Education.
The challengesMy concern was the travel from my home, but it has not been an issue at all.

    So much lost potential.
The good thingsSupportive teaching and support staff who go out of their way to help each other. Generally supportive parents and great kids.
The challengesManagement lacks transparency, overworks staff, doesn't follow guidelines. The expectation of staff working loads very high with no appreciation beyond verbal, general thanks. Student and staff wellbeing not a focus beyond at a marketing level.

    Unsupported and stifled
The good thingsWere there any? Compliant kids I guess...
The challengesHorrible staff culture - particularly the classroom teachers. Very competitive and very negative. Not a supportive place to work. You always feel like you are doing something wrong. The teachers are stuck in old ways of teaching and roll out the same curriculum year after year.

The challengesManagement will not listen. You do it their way. Suggestions are not used. Will ask for a suggestion but they already know what they want.
