    Understaffed, poor conditions, no support
The good thingsThe team is great - everyone is really lovely and hard working on a team level. The free yochi is pretty nice too, but not worth the job.
The challengesThe relationship with upper management is really rough. For the nature of the job and the positive vibe ('chi') that the company wants to maintain, the conditions of working are really sub par. They deliberately minimise labour budgets to scrape by meaning we were always understaffed, making it very hard to take breaks as a TL, particularly during the school holidays. The check ins on the store from management had disproportionately high expectations, and it felt really high pressure and low support to work there. As a TL, working with the team was really great, but the unnecessary stress that upper management put on everyone made the shifts tense. There was no support or security in the job, and the expectations felt so high that it was really disproportionate to the casual position. Work conditions in all were terrible, having to juggle so much responsibility and cover staff positions while having understaffed shifts basically every single night. I would not recommend working here.

Toxic Positivity. Insane pressure for a self serve QSR. Incredibly distrusting.
The good thingsGreat to work with in venue teams, bonding over shared pressures. Opportunities to train young people on their first job. Wonderful environmental honestly, & sustainability programs.
The challengesSimultaneous micromanagement and lack of support from area and state training leaders. SA has much higher standards than other states. Pushed to treat every customer like you're giving them table service as if they've not walked in to a self serve venue. Randomly audited 3-5 times a month with exceptionally high but more importantly; inconsistent standards that are determined by who is auditing and their mood. Discouraged from managing your own team, only leading and hoping teenagers will follow suit. Newly introduced a measly $1k quarterly bonus you have to be invited to reach for. Not often praised for performing well without begging to be; made an example of in front of other stores when missing KPIs. Takes advantage of those staff who are willing to help out teams above and beyond their roles. Yo-Chi is so fast growing and could be even faster if they entrusted experienced hospitality managers to take the reins more. Added a new role as what feels like hurdle to succeed or grow.

Best business I have worked for.
The good thingsThe people! The business truly cares about their guests, their people and the community as a whole. Really fulfilling to be part of a high-performing team that looks after its people.
The challengesNo challenges except for keeping up with the incredible expansion! So exciting!

Too much pressure for a simple job
The good thingsThe coworkers are nice and most of the people who work in the company are nice and caring.
The challenges I joined Yochi when it was a smaller company, and it was a supportive workplace with good staff coverage and a manageable environment. However, as the business has expanded to around 70 stores, the work culture has changed significantly. There is a strong focus on cost-cutting, with minimal staffing on shifts—at times, I’ve had to work alone without any support, making it difficult to even take breaks. Expectations have increased, with high pressure to perform perfectly, but limited support or understanding. As a casual employee, job security feels low, as shifts can be reduced easily for minor mistakes. Staff turnover is high, leading to constant rehiring and retraining. Training relies heavily on modules, with very little hands-on guidance, often expecting new staff to learn everything in one short shift. Frequent random checks and mystery shoppers add further pressure. Overall, the experience has become stressful compared to when I first joined.

    A rewarding journey so far
The good thingsEvery day I get to support amazing venue teams, and I feel like my work makes a real difference in helping them succeed. The environment is fun, fast paced, and inclusive, and there’s always opportunity to learn and grow. Leadership is approachable, supportive, and genuinely cares about both our team and our customers. It’s rewarding to be part of a brand that’s passionate about great products, great experiences, and great people.
The challengesWith the brand growing rapidly, things move fast, but it’s exciting to be part of the journey and contribute to shaping new processes along the way. Every day is different!

Management unrealistic & impossible standards, overwhelming workload & stress from state manager
The good thingsThe co-workers, genuine connections and friends you make/ trauma bonding at its finest. There are so many amazing workers at this company and Yochi do not appreciate them enough.
The challenges1st year was great & management and CEO actually cared & supported all workers no matter what no favouritism present with a genuine family environment vibe. 2nd year a new state leader was hired and changed the environment and dynamic within the company and now KPIs and profit are all they care about and the workers are no longer a priority and they love to run great workers to the ground for these results with no acknowledgement and still demand more. The care factor is gone despite them preaching to be a positive action company.

Great colleagues but unstable rosters, late closes, and constant pressure for higher ups
The good thingsFellow staff made the job more bearable despite the challenges, customers can be lovely too.
The challengesTraining was not sufficiently given. The work was physically tiring, even more during closing shifts. Work hours were inconsistent and often changed week to week, making it hard to plan personal time. Closing times were frequently late, and recently, corporate made it more more late, this causes staff to always rush to catch the last public transport home. Corporate checks were also frequent, with high expectations for cleanliness and performance, which added significant stress, this doesn't help at all as the store was already understaffed.

Decent workplace with good pay and training, at times challenging and socially demanding.
The good thingsGreat team environment with supportive team leaders. Competitive pay + penalty rates, and flexible shifts that fitted dwell with my university and other commitments. Store hours suited my availability, and proper training was provided. A good entry point into the workforce with opportunities to build skills and confidence.
The challengesLine management could feel overwhelming at times just repeating similar things and making small talks. There's only so much one can do with a few minutes of interaction and customers are often with their own company. Some interactions felt forced and uncomfortable (for customers) when people preferred space and staff gets ignored anyways. Cleaning up after colleagues who prioritized speed over thoroughness was occasionally frustrating. Surprise checks were motivating but also draining, especially after a long day/lines when it gets difficult to stay upbeat.
