Meaningful work undermined by inconsistent leadership and limited accountability. The good thingsI genuinely enjoyed working alongside dedicated frontline staff who are deeply committed to improving outcomes for vulnerable people. The mission of the organisation is meaningful, and the work itself is impactful. There were opportunities to engage in complex, purpose-driven practice and collaborate with external stakeholders across the community sector. Many colleagues demonstrated resilience, compassion, and professionalism in challenging circumstances.
The challengesThe most challenging aspect of my experience was inconsistent leadership and a lack of accountability when concerns were raised. Professional disagreements often escalated rather than being resolved constructively, and there was a noticeable gap between stated organisational values and lived workplace culture. Opportunities for open dialogue, feedback, and reflective supervision were limited, which made it difficult to address issues or foster psychological safety. Greater transparency, clearer communication processes, and stronger alignment between leadership behaviours and organisational values would significantly improve the work environment.
