We definitely do not get paid enough to deal with the arrogant Head Office managers.
The good thingsVery busy and never bored
The challengesHead Office managers are petty, unprofessional and rude! If they don't like you, they will not tell you, they will just talk about you to your managers and never let you get promoted. When there are issues, they place blame on everyone else and never listen to ideas for improvement. They make the same mistakes over and over again and never learn or listen. The staff turnover rate is HIGH as they always find insignificant reasons to fire capable and enthusiastic staff. Managers at the store level make less money than the Australian average, and yet are constantly ridiculed and criticised.

A stressful and unwelcoming work environment with poor communication, favoritism, and constant gossip."
The good thingsThe transport is convenient, and there's a Westfield just across the street
The challengesThere was no proper training provided . Senior staff always rude to newcomers. It's very busy, and you have to deal with rude customers and a rude manager. Casual staff don’t get many shifts, but if you're the manager's favorite, you'll get more. People gossip all the time. Communication is poor." No respect from management .

Great learning experience in a dynamic environment
The good thingsZara was a fast-paced place where I improved my customer service skills and learned a lot about fashion trends. The team was supportive, and the training helped me feel confident quickly.
The challengesAt times, it could get quite busy and a bit fast-paced, which could be challenging.

You can find nice people, but dealing with the management of this company is unbelievable. It seems nobody cares about the well-being of the staff.
The good thingsIt is a place where you can meet nice and friendly people; most of them are good people (Staff)
The challengesPoor management, and the place is disorganized. There are so many people who want to give instructions, even though those instructions contradict someone else's, so the staff ends up confused, frustrated, and demotivated because we are always caught in the middle, paying the consequences. The way they treat the full-time staff and the casuals is just unfair. The storeroom is always full of dust, which is a hazard because we don't have fresh air circulating. We spend all day breathing in dust, and nobody cleans that place. I think they clean it once a week.

    Good co-workers, average retail experience
The good thingsOk so I'm just going to be as upfront about what working here was like for me in the Pitt Street Store. The best thing had to be the co-workers, I would absolutely not have stayed so long if it weren't for the amazing people I worked with. Maybe I lucked out but I managed to have amazing managers for my department. It is a pretty massive brand so another major thing is that it definitely helps push you, making you a better candidate for other retail jobs, and develops a lot of organisational skills, communication and things like that which are useful even beyond Zara. I've seen people around me move up roles through connections and most senior managers and that have started as casuals so I guess you can say you can definitely grow in the company. Good flexibility, the requirement was minimum three days a week availability, I sometimes wasn't able to achieve that but my manager was pretty understanding because I also had university. There's always something to do there, so It's pretty fast paced. I realised it is also a great place to network with people involved in the fashion industry.
The challengesOk so with managers, there are definitely some more annoying managers who don't sympathise with their workers and lack the qualities of a leader. It's really random depending on who you get, you can either get really amazing, supportive managers or just be in a toxic mess. As a Casual you don't get discounts which is pretty bad, even other smaller brands offer discounts or perks to employees. I don't see why a multibillion dollar company can't offer casual staff discounts. Though for full-timers, the discount is pretty good. It often can feel understaffed depending on who's on shift with you and the customers that roll in and there's just so many tasks to do.

I quit after 3 days, the worst job I've had
The good thingsNice clothes, they offered full time employment and management roles to anyone
The challengesManagement were cold and not understanding, would often talk about how much they wanted to quit. Breaks were not given in accordance to regulations. Not provided with adequate standing mats on long fitting room shifts. Standards were way to high for average retail pay

Management would instill fear when buyers from Spain would come for visits, a lot of arrogance. Wouldn't recommend anyone work here only casually or part time is fine.

The challengesEverything from management to customers, no benefits and long hours with little recognition.

Great team and fast paced! I enjoyed my time there. The people you work with make it special.
The good thingsDiverse workplace with people from different backgrounds, cultures and walks of life that soon feel like family. Definitely made some lifelong friends and connections. Yes the job can be stressful but the people make it so tolerable as you do big days together as a team. You're never bored- a great thing if you like fast faced and high pressure environments although this isn't for you if you are easily flustered and can't handle stress and multitasking well. Opportunities to learn, change departments, step up or progress internally if you put your hand up. That's if they like you and you're good at what you do- you do have to be loyal and work hard to be recognised. Customers are usually pretty pleasant and kind.
The challengesThe store can get very busy - be prepared to be stressed and work fast under pressure. Everyone works hard in the store and you are expected to do the same. The work can be repetitive but that's any job in retail. You have to have good attention to detail to do any job in the store well. Work life balance is challenging as you work late nights a lot and if you're full time you won't work the same days each week, including most weekends. Annual leave over holidays isn't always approved as these are the store's busy periods.

Good retail step. Very fast paced.
The good thingsGreat, friendly and diverse team to work with. It's a large team so you can meet and make many friends. Possible growth in the company, you just need to put yourself forward and be ready to put in the hardwork.
The challengesCompany policies are not great. They don't care about customers or the employees. Quite low pay for the amount of work that you do. HR won't listen or care about your problems. They really showed their true colours when COVID came and didn't implement any protection or incentive in store. Full timers were still forced to come to work even during a lockdown. Customers are beyond rude. The company have lenient return policies and customers always take advantage. The staff are in the middle of it all and are forced to deal with it. The work environment is very very stressful during sales time as customers have no respect for you.

The good thingsGreat perks in terms of fashion. Discount
The challengesWorst place to work if you are considering retail... horrible and toxic work environment. Company doesn’t care about you other than making money. They can roster you on with less than 24hr notice. Concerns you raise will never be heard. Absolutely chaotic with customers and completely understaffed every day.

Challenging, mainly understaffed but the team makes it bearable and shifts go fast.
The good thingsThe team you work with - other casuals and some managers are amazing and you can make fantastic out of work friends, no clothing discount however uniform is paid for plus laundry allowance and xmas gift cards given, also some shifts are from 7am so potential to still squeeze in small 3/4hr shifts even on uni days or other busy days if you want extra work. If you're a busy worker and enjoy the rush, shifts go extremely fast, definitely no standing around bored.
The challengesManagers are good but higher up/head office are a nightmare. If you're causal be prepared for last minute shift changes, only finding out the roster a few days/less than a week in advance, being expected to work 7am starts after late finishes the night before, and being continually asked to work on your rostered days off/days you've already said are unavailable, also when its dead or budget isnt being made, be prepared for 1 shift a week if you're lucky enough to get that.

It was the company where I was able to develop as a person, professional and acquired many experiences and skills that contributed to my growth.
The good thingsThe company as a large fast fashion chain provides knowledge and skills in different areas. All tasks are very well defined and the interaction with the team is very good at all levels.
The challengesThe challenges and difficulties of working in the retail company are the constant changes and staff turnover, but we adapt to all situations and we are more resilient.

I am grateful for the opportunity
The good thingsthe other workers always willing to help you and very welcoming at the beginning, what it made the whole time working for Zara much more pleasant. I have been very lucky to meet really hard workers, good colleagues is most of the cases.
The challengesdeal with customers, lack of coordination between managers, the work we do is not valued and the operation of store is barely explain to us. The lack of opportunities and work in an environment not equal for everyone.
