It was good that it was half business and half property

Deakin provided a comprehensive online course with teaching staff who were conscious and willing to adapt their units for online study. Deakin provided a good mix of supported and independent learning across a range of subjects. The property subjects were relevant and industry focused, assisting me in being ready to take on a full time role in the industry on completion. I really enjoyed my time studying with Deakin and highly recommend them for online learning.
Response from Deakin University

The course covered a broad range of topics, although I undertook the course to become a property valuer and I think the process to becoming this (in terms of additional experience required, familiarity with the Australian Property Institute (the leading membership organisation required to be a part of as a property professional - i.e. valuer) etc) could have been better addressed. Also studying online there were not the practical opportunities available as in other courses (i.e. as compared to a colleagues course at UQ where they went to and valued a building as an assignment). However the course did give a good introduction to many aspects of property and meets the accredited course requirements required by the API for me to progress a career as a valuer. The lecturers were helpful if needed and I fund the online portal easy to use. I also secured a great job straight from completing my course.
Response from Deakin University
We're delighted to hear that you got a job shortly after your degree. We'd love to hear more feedback and suggestions on improvements for the course. If you're willing to provide them, please get in touch at studentcomplaints@deakin.edu.au.

Love the flexibility of online study, it enables me to learn in my own time, and to a higher degree than I was able to do when I completed my first degree on campus. Teachers are great and I don't miss anything by not being on campus
Response from Deakin University
Thanks for your review. We're glad to hear you felt supported throughout your online studies, that's something we really pride ourselves on!

This course is well designed. Good programme. somewhat need to improve assessment. Almost same format. Have 3 semester per year but it does not have enough open unit at third semester. well support and fast response time. Overall, it is good course to take.

The online delivery was great as i was able to work around both work and caring for my mother. The content was great and I learnt a lot. There was a lot of team assessments which was a bit difficult for online students but teachers did provide help.
Response from Deakin University
We're glad to hear that you were able to manage study and caring for your family at the same time. Thank you so much for leaving a review.

- student advisors advised me wrong and it extended my graduation date by one year - no clear career paths - substitute tutors couldn't answer our questions and had to 'go away and come back' - more hands on experience would have been beneficial
Response from Deakin University
We appreciate you taking the time to tell us your thoughts. Any chance to improve our courses and how student advisors interact with students is important to us. We’d be really keen to hear more about the specifics of your time at Deakin. If you feel inclined, please send us an email at studentcomplaints@deakin.edu.au.

Great uni, great people. The educators are amazing and very helpful. Additional internships in year three would have been good, or over summer breaks. I would have benefited from speaking to an ‘advisor’ in second or third year for those tips.
Response from Deakin University

A Bachelor of Arts at Deakin University helped me develop my creative and critical thinking, as well as key skills in my chosen area of public relations and media studies such as video editing, media release writing and social media content production. This degree was one of the major reasons I was able to become employed after university.
Response from Deakin University

Support and delivery

How Deakin's online courses are delivered

As an online student you’ll watch lectures, complete readings and participate in tutorials, just like an on-campus student. The difference is you’ll do this online, when it suits you.

Deakin was one of the first universities in Australia to deliver courses for off-campus students, and they pride themselves on an online learning system that is cutting-edge, engaging and easy to use.

Through their platform CloudDeakin, you’ll:

  • access almost all your learning resources
  • watch the same lectures that are delivered on-campus, and
  • interact with your tutors (you'll have one dedicated tutor for each unit).

You’ll also be involved in conversations with other students and your tutors through virtual classrooms and discussion boards.

Support services for online students

You can access the same support services as on-campus students – either via Deakin’s website, over the phone, on Skype, or in person if you are near a Deakin campus.

Specialist online advisers can help you develop successful study skills, discuss your course direction and provide career guidance.

You can also access:

  • Online library support
  • Counselling
  • Financial assistance
  • Medical services and more.

The online orientation at the start of your course will introduce you to helpful resources.

Flexible study loads

Possible study loads:

  • Full-time – 8 credit points a year, over 3 years
  • Part-time – 6 credit points a year, over 4 years OR 4 credit points a year, over 6 years
  • Accelerated – you can often take extra units over summer and finish your course earlier

For each unit, you need to allow around 10 hours a week for reading, online activities and assessments.
