  • Have not previously completed a Certificate III qualification (or above) outside of secondary school

  • A police check must be obtained prior to enrolment

Disability

Home and Community specialisation

  • A police check and a blue card must be obtained prior to enrolment

What you’ll learn

During this course you will gain an understanding of how to:

  • Identify the client's needs and determine an individualised support plan
  • Recognise and support individual differences, including socially, culturally and spiritually
  • Promote independence by helping individuals identify their own strengths
  • Identify potential conflicts or difficult situations and communicate them to a supervisor
  • Establish effective communication strategies with clients and their families, colleagues and management
  • Adhere to all legal and ethical workplace policies and procedures
  • Recognise and promote ways to improve the physical well-being of the client

Work placement

120 hours of work placement is required for completion of the core unit: Support independence and well-being.
