The course has been great, the online materials are thorough and the unit chairs are helpful and eager to help you succeed. They have recently included field specific tasks for assignments which give a good insight to the industry.

There was not enough practical application and if you like discussion to the nuance information retention, this is not the course for you. If you want to gain anything you must elect for the practicum unit during your final semester.

an interesting way to pass 2 yrs of your life.Not. It was theoretically suitable for those seeking an academic life and you spend most of the time searching for what the lecturer wants rather than learning about nutrition

The course was interesting and included relevent content. It covered the latest in nutrition and has some really helpful teachers. However there was no practical hands on experience and that has hindered me finding employment in the field.

Deakin University’s online modules were extremely easy to work through, communication between lectures and students was fantastic. I wish I was able to do more subjects on campus, as it’s an amazing campus with tons of resources and ongoing activities for students.

Great course, very informative content and great ability to gain practical experience in both the clinical and community dietetic setting. It is very clinical focused however and with the limited number of clinical graduate positions available it would have been ideal to have been more prepared to enter the private consulting sector. Content was thorough, up to date and delivered effectively. Good industry connections and networking opportunities.
Response from Deakin University

I thoroughly enjoyed the content and was inspired by my lecturers, particularly those in the Nutrition and Chemistry teams. When I sought help on any topic most lecturers would be more than happy to spend a good amount of time explaining things.

Support and delivery

How Deakin's online courses are delivered

As an online student you’ll watch lectures, complete readings and participate in tutorials, just like an on-campus student. The difference is you’ll do this online, when it suits you.

Deakin was one of the first universities in Australia to deliver courses for off-campus students, and they pride themselves on an online learning system that is cutting-edge, engaging and easy to use.

Through their platform CloudDeakin, you’ll:

  • Access almost all your learning resources
  • Watch the same lectures that are delivered on-campus, and
  • Interact with your tutors (you'll have one dedicated tutor for each unit)

You’ll also be involved in conversations with other students and your tutors through virtual classrooms and discussion boards.

Support services for online students

You can access the same support services as on-campus students – either via Deakin’s website, over the phone, on Skype, or in person if you are near a Deakin campus.

Specialist online advisers can help you develop successful study skills, discuss your course direction and provide career guidance.

You can also access:

  • Online library support
  • Counselling
  • Financial assistance
  • Medical services and more

The online orientation at the start of your course will introduce you to helpful resources.
