A great university to study Science if you intend to go into research as theory is prioritised. I graduated feeling very prepared to go into a research position. However, having worked in a lab alongside my studies, 100% of the practical skills I have came from working - UQ falls flat in this department. If you’re interested in developing hands on lab skills (ie thinking of working in diagnostics over academia), UQ isn’t your best option.

Friendly and knowledgeable academic staff, industry relevant placements and collegial community spirit. I am very grateful for my time in the health psychology postgraduate course at UQ, have made lifelong friends and have greater clarity over my career directions.

Overall the course is fast-paced and content heavy, but it has a good mixture of theory and practical elements, and most of the things we learn are relevant to working in the veterinary industry, I especially enjoyed the final year of rotations which helped me consolidate my knowledge and build my confidence in becoming a veterinarian.
