What's it like to be a Club Manager?
Club Managers ensure the safe and efficient operation of sporting clubs, pubs, nightclubs, RSAs and other venues. They roster and coordinate staff and manage inventory to deliver food and beverages, entertainment, gaming and other amenities to members and visitors.
Tasks and duties
- Planning and managing daily operations, security and maintenance.
- Using software to manage reservations and input financial information.
- Booking and overseeing entertainment and sporting activities.
- Observing and ensuring compliance with liquor, gaming and OH&S laws and regulations.
- Onboarding new club members and keeping members informed of upcoming events.
- Hiring, training, rostering and supervising staff.
- Attending board meetings.
How to become a Club Manager
You don’t need any formal qualifications to work as a Club Manager, however industry experience is essential. Many employers will also require completion of relevant licences for the service of alcohol and gaming. A qualification in hospitality or business management may be beneficial.
- 1.Gain experience working in a licensed venue such as a pub, restaurant or sporting club.
- 2.To manage a licensed venue or one with gaming facilities, you will need certifications such as a Responsible Service of Alcohol (RSA), Responsible Service of Gaming (RSG) and a First Aid Certificate. These are available through TAFEs and local Registered Training Organisations (RTO).
- 3.Consider completing a Certificate IV in Hospitality (SIT40416) or a bachelor degree in business management to increase your employment prospects.
