What's it like to be a Dental Receptionist?
A Dental Receptionist is usually the first point of contact within a dental clinic or dental hospital and is responsible for performing office duties or administrative support roles.
Tasks and duties
- Greet patients when they arrive at the clinic or by telephone, assist with booking appointments, confirm appointments and provide follow-up phone calls as required
- Collect and file insurance information and liaise with dental suppliers, pathology, general practitioners, radiology and other health professionals and support services.
- Assist with copying, filing and maintaining documents and dental health records.
How to become a Dental Receptionist
Formal training is not usually required to become a Dental Receptionist. However qualifications in business administration tend to be looked upon favourably by employers. Dental Receptionists with excellent computer literacy are also well regarded.
- 1.Complete a Certificate III in Business (Administration) (BSB30120) or Certificate IV in Business (Administration) (BSB40120).
- 2.Pursue on-the-job training and attend professional development sessions within the dentistry field.
- 3.Dental receptionists looking to further their career may like to consider additional opportunities for study, such as a Diploma of Leadership and Management (BSB50420) or a Bachelor of Business (Management), or consider undertaking training to become a Dental Assistant.
