What's it like to be a Scheduler?
Schedulers coordinate daily schedules and manage the flow of people and operations. They create rosters, contribute to capacity planning and perform administrative tasks to ensure work is delivered on time and within a budget. Schedulers often work within a medical practice or health facility, and can also work in construction, transport and resources industries.
Tasks and duties
- Managing the flow of people and operations.
- Creating and managing staff rosters.
- Scheduling patient consultations, medical procedures and follow up appointments.
- Answering phone calls and greeting patients or customers.
- Overseeing capacity planning.
- Filing and managing paperwork.
- Coordinating the daily schedules of staff.
- Monitoring the progress of schedules, making changes and adjustments to ensure optimal efficiency.
How to become a Scheduler
There are no formal qualifications required to become a Scheduler, however many organisations prefer candidates with at least a high school certificate or VET qualification.
- 1.Consider completing a relevant VET qualification. This could be a Certificate III in Business (BSB30120) or Diploma of Business (BSB50120).
- 2.Gain experience in an entry-level role that involves administrative tasks, preparing rosters and/or computer work.
- 3.Additional requirements may apply if you want to be a Scheduler in construction or engineering industries. These can include a trade qualification or industry experience.
- 4.Consider enhancing your skills and career options by completing a bachelor degree in business administration or a related field.
