How to become a Travel Agent

SEEK Learning
While there is no longer a licensing requirement to become a Travel Agent, since 2014 the Australian Federation of Travel Agents (AFTA) has set up a self-accrediting scheme, known as the AFTA Travel Accreditation Scheme (ATAS), which sets out explicit requirements for becoming an accredited Travel Agent.

  1. Complete a Certificate III in Travel (SIT30216). You may also study a travel course at a diploma, bachelor or masters degree level, which may include a business management component.
  2. Gain accreditation with the AFTA Travel Accreditation Scheme (ATAS).
