Bamaga is one of five communities in the Northern Peninsula Area (NPA) and is the unofficial capital of the NPA. The Bamaga Hospital services the communities of Bamaga, Seisia, Injinoo, Umagico and New Mapoon in the NPA. The resident population of the NPA at 2011 was approximately 2400 people.In 2014 Bamaga Hospital achieved accreditation with GPA Accreditation plus.
