At Carey we attempt the extraordinary. We are named after the pioneering Baptist missionary William Carey, who famously urged, ‘Expect great things from God. Attempt great things for God,’ advice Carey has sought to live by. It has birthed a remarkable community where hope, compassion, family and learning are valued and fostered, and we have been able to celebrate many successes along the way.We began in 1996, when a handful of pioneers, with a median age of just 25, committed to build a church that was turned inside out.Source: This is an extract from the company’s own website.

Great Staff Culture and Always ImprovingI am so thankful to have had the chance to work at Carey Forrestdale. Since beginning working here, I have found the staff culture to be positive and welcoming. There is a sense that everyone is in this together. College leaders are emotionally intelligent and supportive of their staff. The teachers are kind and dedicated to doing their best. Long-term staff have laid a strong foundation for the future. The school is transitioning out of its pioneering years and is no longer as small as it once was. There are several initiatives being implemented to improve teaching and learning and provide unique student experiences. These will bear fruit in the future.

All shine, no substanceThis school presents well from the outside but sadly does not live up to the values it claims to uphold. The leadership culture is driven by ego, control, and poor communication, under new leadership. Staff wellbeing is not a priority, and there is very little genuine support from admin when it matters most. Concerns are often dismissed or minimised, and the atmosphere is one of blame rather than collaboration. There are dedicated teachers doing their best, but many are burning out or leaving due to the toxic leadership. If you’re looking for a healthy, respectful, and professionally empowering environment, I would look elsewhere.

The good thingsThe school has a lovely bush setting and it’s a shame the actual school grounds don’t reflect that - they need to invest in some landscaping, no patio areas and no shade for kids at all.
The challengesToxic leadership. In a nutshell, on every level - it’s what’s poisoning the school. Some lovely teachers but they’re far and few between. The school is useless at offering support for students as well as special needs. Admin is a joke.
