A new challenge, exactly what I was looking for.
The good thingsThe work is meaningful, challenging and rewarding. There has been a lot to learn moving from the Private Sector to the Public, and it has been a really great journey. The team is wonderful, a great culture and everyone makes time to assist.
The challengesLearning to navigate the APS was probably the biggest challenge. Learning the correct terms, legislation, acronyms, ways of working, how everything fits together, reporting structures etc. but I am 5 months in and feel much more confident.

A great agency to work for, very happy.
The good thingsVery supportive for work/life balance and flexibility. Very understanding of parent/caring responsibilities and the challenges that come with that. Great team environment. Lots of opportunities for learning and development. Lots of opportunities for mobility within the agency. The pay at each level is high for the APS. Continuous support for people especially who are in difficult or sensitive roles. You are encouraged to share your ideas.
The challengesWe have had lots of change in the last few years, so the agency and leadership team has been working through that. Some new strategies have been developed to improve lots of areas, there will be lots of projects and initiatives to achieve those goals, and it will require dedication, support for employees and commitment at all levels.

Good Government Agency to work in.
The good thingsGreat place to work. You are given the tools (systems, policies and procedures) to do your work and support injured workers.
The challengesManaging injured workers can be stressful (workload) and burnout was not uncommon.

I left feeling deflated and questioning my skill set.
The good thingsThe flexibility with start and finish times
The challengesManagement, old school won't listen to new ideas even when people are brought into the businesses to influence change. Very narrow minded, supervisors don't defend their teams they look out for themselves

Probably a career-low for a professional Occ. Health and Safety person.
The good thingsWorking from home. I probably wouldn't have lasted as long if I had to go into the office each day.
The challengesManagement is self-serving. Expectation vs Remuneration. Opportunity for promotion does not exist. Comcare lacks a clear mission or purpose leaving the role of an Inspector almost irrelevant. Senior staff with outdated ideas. Salary is so low that I had to work a second job during my time at Comcare.

    Was fun, but never again.
The good thingsThe team at comcare are very straight forward.
The challengesIt is very hard to work in a team that knows it needs to change, But does not change. Level 1 team has little to no experience.

Dissapointing performance of its primary objective to properly monitor the safety of its stakeholders.
The good thingsGovernment superannuation is a higher rate than usual
The challengesMicro management with constant monitoring. Turning a blind eye to other hazards when directed to.

    Great workplace culture.
The good thingsWorkplace culture. Flexible working arrangements.
The challengesI think the bigger picture at Comcare gets overshadowed by the management merry-go-round that appears content with flux and fluff. Questionable personality choices in some quarters of management, with some correspondingly questionable decision making. Highly political organisation. Comcare is much improved on 20 years ago, yet remains largely inefficient and in my view is in desperate need of external analysis and performance and culture experts (corporate psychologists, not business consultants with premium branding and a matching price tag).
