What’s it like working at Fraser Coast Regional Council?

    AI summary of recent reviews

Employees value the work/life balance at Fraser Coast Regional Council, particularly the 9-day fortnight and flexible working conditions. Many appreciate their supportive team members who work hard and create a positive environment. The Council offers training and development opportunities, including programmes like 'Boss to Coach' and clear career progression pathways. Additionally, the location and weather in the Fraser Coast region are seen as attractive benefits.

However, there are some potential challenges. Some employees have raised concerns about management practices, including a perceived lack of support, unclear direction, and limited accountability. The workplace culture can be challenging in some areas, with mentions of office politics and passive-aggressive behaviour. Some employees feel that career advancement may depend on personal connections, and the organisation can be top-heavy with management and siloed between departments. The Council also faces challenges in attracting skilled talent due to its distance from Brisbane.

Rewarding experience building skills, confidence, and adaptability in a new workplace.
The good thingsI’ve really enjoyed the opportunity to gain hands-on experience in a new work environment and build my practical skills. Working as part of a team has been a positive experience, and I’ve appreciated the support and guidance from colleagues. I’ve also found it rewarding to assist clients directly and contribute to their daily needs. Overall, the role has helped me grow in confidence, improve my communication skills, and better understand workplace expectations in Australia.
The challengesAdditional structured guidance or refresher training in certain areas could also improve confidence and efficiency on the job. With continued experience and support, I believe these areas will improve over time.

Great culture, professional development pathways, and benefits.
The good thingsFlexible working conditions, 9-day fortnight, team culture is supportive and highly motivated. There are professional development pathways, "Boss to Coach" program. Opportunities for everyone if you want to put in the time to grow and develop. I've come from the private sector and find that there are a lot more opportunities for growth with FCRC than I have experienced before.
The challengesI don't have any comments about what I don't like. I'm very fortunate to have found a great job.

The challengesToxic culture. No accountability especially from management. Who you know not what you know. Dysfunctional organisation that wastes money.
