What’s it like working at Lions Eye Institute?

    AI summary of recent reviews

Lions Eye Institute is characterised by its positive workplace culture where staff, including doctors, are consistently described as friendly, helpful and approachable. Employees appreciate the good facilities and resources provided to perform their jobs effectively, along with competitive pay and salary sacrifice options.

However, the organisation faces some operational challenges including staffing shortages across multiple departments and a complex management structure that can create confusion. Additional areas for improvement include the need for more comprehensive training and support, and the management of working hours, particularly in clinical areas where staff finish times are dependent on clinic completion.

LEI I great place to work, generous Salary Packaging really makes this a employer of choice.
The good thingsStaff at LEI are great, supportive Management, plenty of opportunity for growth. As an employee you get out what you put in, I feel I have learnt more in this role than any other role I have had in my working life.
The challengesCollaboration between Clinics and Non-Clinic departments could be improved, to improve the comprehension of roles improved. There is no secret made at the time of recruitment that parking is a challenge, at QEII this is very easily overcome though with the great public transport network.

    Poor management -short staffed
    The good thingsColleagues are great
The challengesThe management structure is so strange, too many managers and bosses in one company with no real accountability. Hours are super long, you will never finish on the time you were rostered to finish. Can only leave once the doctors are finished their clinic, even if that means you are sitting around doing nothing for 2 hours. 10+ hour days with 30 minute break only if you’re lucky, forget your 15 minute tea break you will never get it. No real room for growth and it’s extremely hard to get a pay rise. Critically understaffed on all floors - almost everyone is stressed everyday due to staffing issues yet management claim that they can’t afford to hire anymore staff.

seemed great, ended up being a waste of my energy
The good thingsgreat pay, co-workers are lovely
The challengesmanagement's useless, they provide insufficient training, then complain when the job isn't completed to the standard they never taught, and they don't listen when you tell them anything. constantly understaffed, very often asked to step into areas i wasn't qualified for.
