    A slow self learning climb.
The good thingsSome good people you meet are nice. But not all.
The challengesManagement: Tries to be helpful at times. However had trouble really connecting with managers..always drama and issues Growth; no room, expectations are massive Training; None. I received 'training' through shadowing and then I was thrown head first onto the floor left to fend for myself. Overall I've had the worst experience. Working as a casual doing full-time hours and always being told I wasn't doing good enough. But then getting random praise. I always left confused and out of touch with how I was really performing.

Short term at best - get the pay while you look for somewhere that will actually value you.
The good thingsThe only positive is the pay - that is it.
The challengesAll they want you to do is SELL, all they want you to do is put up with the "Bull". They train you sort of, but when you hit the floor it is fend for yourself. They say they support but any help "disappears" very quickly. There is a core group of favourites and they get the perks - everyone else is discarded. They talk it up about all the great things they are doing and how much they care but it is all smoke and mirrors.

Navigating a Toxic Workplace: Favoritism and Lack of Support
The good thingsThe only positive aspect of Optus is its great campus, which everyone enjoys. Beyond that, there's nothing noteworthy about it.
The challengesSurviving in the toxic environment is tough unless you know an old employee who can navigate the system. Management favors certain people, and HR, misleadingly called "People and Culture," works for toxic managers, not employees. Don't expect any support from them.

The good thingsCampus had good cafes and restaurants
The challengesManagement higher than team leaders were narcissistic, out of touch, held mandatory meetings with nothing to say, constantly bragging about their travels in mass emails and forcing their presence onto everyone else in the company. Meanwhile service quality was suffering, there were notable mistakes, but most of the employees were constantly shuffled into creating meaningless "features" that only confused customers more and were fundamentally never capable of solving any issues. WFH arrangements were taken away quickly despite a lot of work being outsourced to other countries, forcing people to sit on their computers in meetings for most of the day anyway. People in the company do not have a path for career progression other than random reassignments, and contractors that do all the technical work are not trained well. Despite upper management forcing large mandatory presentations and lunches constantly, they always severely undercatered food.

A stressful and unrewarding experience, with high expectations, limited support, and unclear guidance from management.
The good thingsFriendly staff who are willing to help and collaborate.
The challengesHigh expectations from the beginning, performance comparisons with other team members, pressure to encourage customers to purchase a new device as part of recontracting, and unstructured or informal training sessions. Additionally, managers often provide limited support, claiming they are available to help without specifying the type of assistance they can actually offer.

    Subpar compensation and annual increments.
The good thingsWork life balance is sufficient.
The challengesThe compensation is pitiful and doesn't come close to helping people cope with rising inflation, as the increments are far too small. It seems the focus is more on achieving vanity goals.

Great money while you are there but don't expect job security.
The good thingsOptus pay you very well and reward their staff handsomely for high performance. It is a fun yet challenging work environment.
The challengesPoor communication from senior leaders. Waiting for the inevitable tap on the shoulder for redundancy - the company seems to have 1 to 2 massive redundancies per year. Our department was shut down in Adelaide while Melbourne remained - Adelaide outperformed Melbourne in all aspect, but as the senior leadership team was based there we were all made redundant.

A sit down and shut up environment without room for growth.
The good thingsYou save a few bucks on optus services with employee discounts. New nice premises.
The challengesA troubled, dysfunctional business that’s getting worse by the day. Would take pages to list all the wrong things.

Your experience is dependant on your store that you work at.
The good thingsYour experience and enjoyment is dependant if you've got a lively team and they're nice people to talk too.
The challengesIf your manager isn't a good person your experience won't be good, majority of managers are good for nothing however there are definitely a few that genuinely desire for the their staff to do well and motivate your team and not bring them down.

The good thingsGreat staff members in place and wonderful atmosphere in the campus.
The challengesWorking in a fast pace making all different types of coffee and beverages, also serving up wonderful food to all corporates within the Optus Campus. The most challenging was serving at least 10 kgs to 15 kgs of coffee a day to many Optus employees.

Great opportunity to partner closely with a business unit and get to know how that part of the business operates. This allows us to better service them and provide support they require from a people point of view.
The good thingsThe people, the culture and the fun we have!
The challengesWorking with difficult stakeholders (not unique to this role or to Optus) and the time pressures we are put under. Can be difficult to explain to a leader that their issue isn't the #1 priority today when to them it is but there are other things going on that need to take precedence (and their issue can wait 1-2 days).

Amazing people, great campus culture. An organisation that you can stay at for years as the opportunities are endless
The good thingsHave been here just a few months but what stands out is the campus culture, it is amazing. The people are authentic, there is a genuine culture of collaboration, teams are allowed and encouraged to have fun, learn and be themselves. The facilities on campus are excellent - food outlets, gym, tennis courts, meeting rooms with VC, onsite doctor, post office, general store and a car wash. You really don't need to leave.
The challengesOptus is a complex place so figuring our who is who can be a challenge. But everyone is so happy to connect you, once you ask for help

Great place to work in business but not so much in IT.
The good thingsThe people are helpful and plenty of benefits
The challengesCertain parts of the organisation have a terrible culture especially in IT. You get put down at work constantly and especially few individuals who are long timers feel they are above everyone else. Either you fall in line with them even though everyone else knows it is wrong or you get outcasted and are no longer in their 'circle of trust'. Fix the culture in IT! Having worked on the business side before, the work culture was fantastic. IT is just a big No!
