Revolving door of staff. Competent staff often taken for granted, and upper management tends to micro-manage, leading to a sense of decreased motivation across the team due to a perceived lack of trust/confidence. However, the Priceline system itself is great to work in if it is well managed. The good thingsI quite like most of the things about the Priceline model itself, and all of the company procedural tasks are really straightforward and easy to execute well. So much so, that upon leaving this position, I got one at a different Priceline store. I'd recommend working at a Priceline in general, however I would not necessarily recommend working at this particular store. Most of the staff I worked with at this store were lovely, and we were often able to make difficult situations work smoothly. This store has a great Retail Manager, and if her priorities weren't overriden by the owners', important tasks wouldn't be put off in favour of others that are arguably less crucial, and the priorities and expectations would be much clearer . Retail Manager and other staff were generally extremely communicative and it generally felt like we could rely on each other to get things done. Unfortunately, that is not always enough to offset the underlying toxic workplace culture present at this store.
The challengesHigh degree of inconsistency and micromanagement from Franchise Partners/Owners, although this was usually mitigated by the Retail Manager. Many competing expectations. Top priorities not always clear, or, more accurately, top priorities changed often enough that it was sometimes difficult to determine (mostly relevant for cases where you have to choose certain tasks over others due to constraints). This overall lack of clear direction was often the driving force behind staff *not* wanting to take initiative, because some choices felt like a catch-22. Owner would complain of lack of initiative, and then when someone would try to take initiative, they would be told to prioritise something else instead, even when the staff could foresee that putting off a certain task would create more issues later. Owners lack accountability and acceptance of criticism. This store also has ongoing staff issues where they struggle to retain competent staff. These are not issues at my new Priceline store.
