Great team, but poor support, long hours, and unrealistic expectations.
The good thingsThe team I worked with was easily the best part of the job. Everyone got along really well, and it made a big difference coming into work each day to work with mates.
The challengesThere were a few ongoing frustrations. 6 monthly pay reviews were promised during the interview and by management but never actually happened during my employment. There also felt like a clear disconnect between head office and store level, with expectations that didn’t match the realities of working in store. Some store policies were difficult to enforce and often led to unhappy customers, leaving sales staff to deal with the fallout rather than the head office who implement them. The 90 hour fortnights were also pretty full on and don’t support much of a work/life balance.

Get out why you put in, real opportunities to grow.
The good thingsFamily business, not corporate bean counters. Skills and experience focused. People who are genuinely passionate about the business and what we sell is refreshing. Genuinely get out what you put in.
The challengesStaff turnover can be an issue.

Worst job I have ever had!!!
The good thingsMet some great blokes made some good friendships
The challengesAvoid Sydney tools at all costs this company will drain the life out of you! If you value your mental health and being valued then this job is not for you unrealistic sales targets to zero help from head office to enforcing procedures but never answer emails or phones at critical times micro managing is their specialty, they don’t offer refunds so customers constantly coming and yelling at staff because we can’t give a refund even if the refund is clearly what’s needed! Sydney tools thrives off being toxic and ruining your work experience your not valued your just another number ready to be replaced the money is terrible and working 90hr fortnight’s is ridiculous not to mention you have to push imported products on customers and the ln those products break 3 days later and no refund for customers absolute joke of place

    Warehouse needs major improvements
The good thingswarehouse staff were friendly, and leaving everyday
The challengesEverything about the warehouse needs improving, especially safety and cleanliness, some staff need to be let go but because of the high turn over the bad employees keep their job, the long serving warehouse manager doesn't help the situation as he is very relaxed with safety and does not set a good example for the employees as he can't even follow basic warehouse rules and safety issues.

AVOID THIS PLACE LIKE THE PLAGUE
The good thingsBest thing was clocking off at the end of the day
The challengesEverything needs improving. Worst workplace I’ve ever encountered. No support. Minimal training. Dated systems. Terrible work culture. There is nothing positive to say about this company. Avoid like the plague. Not worth damaging your mental health for a dead end job like this place offers

A positive sales role with great learning opportunities in a fast‑paced retail environment.
The good thingsWorking in sales at Sydney Tools on the Gold Coast gave me the chance to build strong product knowledge across a huge range of tools and accessories. The role is very hands‑on, and you quickly learn how to match customers with the right gear for their trade or project. The team environment can be supportive when everyone is on the same page, and the fast pace keeps the days moving. It’s a great place to develop confidence in customer service, technical understanding, and retail operations.
The challengesSales can be demanding, especially during peak periods or major promotions. You often need to juggle multiple customers, stock checks, and admin tasks at once. Stock availability can sometimes make it harder to close a sale, so being adaptable and solution‑focused is important. Communication between stores and head office can occasionally feel slow, which means sales staff need to manage expectations and think on their feet.

would rather work for the dole
The good thingsthe guys you get to work with
The challengesunrealistic sales targets, the stress from head office, state manager is just a rude angry little man that lives off anger, cigarettes and coca cola. no actual support from head office or warranty team they just tell you to upsell rather than provide customer support. some people are classed as favorites and never get reprimanded they just shove blame onto other people. zero work life balance and no support from HR when things get hard.

The good thingsPay is decent but not for the work they expect you to do
The challengesManagement is all over the place and do not communicate with HR. They give empty promises compared to what they advertise on the ads. No support and lack of safety and SOP

Toxic, low pay, zero morale, zero work life balance.
The good thingsSome of the guys you work with are ok.
The challengesSydney Tools is an absolute nightmare to work for. The Sydney bosses and head office management treat both staff and customers with complete contempt. You’ll work around 90.5 hours a fortnight, with unpaid overtime expected nearly every week, often on weekends. Sales targets are absurd, and anyone who questions them is made to feel disposable. The WA state and area managers are toxic, morale is non-existent, and the whole company runs on fear and pressure. Owners and directors are deluded, ignoring the endless negative feedback. Avoid this company at all costs — it’s a burnout factory.

Seriously toxic and ruins mental health
The good thingsThe pay is decent for the amount of work you do, and most of the people you'll be in store with are good, bonding over mutual suffering
The challengesThe complete lack of care from upper management, they will make promise after promise of promotions and whatever else you ask for, never follow through on it and give insufficient reasons for doing so. They have no care for staff retention and are of the belief that 'everyone is replacable so who cares about keeping who we already have employed happy'

A great mix of culture, growth, and creativity!
The good thingsSydney Tools is a great place to work as a designer — the projects are always varied, the culture is friendly and collaborative, and the team is really supportive. There are also plenty of opportunities to grow and develop your skills as the company continues to expand.
The challengesThe pace can be pretty quick with plenty of projects happening at once, but it keeps the work exciting!

Happy to be a part of a fast growing and exciting company
The good thingsSydney Tools is a family business and full of great people. You have direct exposure and lines of communications to senior staff and also the directors which is rare in most businesses. Working in the head office is often busy and loud, but the hustle makes for a great work environment and I love coming to work each day.
The challengesI can't really think of any. You are expected to work hard and do your job, so its an environment where you get out what you put in - but if you are like me, I see this as a good thing. Good work gets recognised!

Avoid this business at all costs. If you are desperate or it's your only option until something else turns up. Terrible company
The good thingsThe other guys team members are nice and some good customers.
The challenges90 hour fortnightly roster for average pay. The store leaks in the rain and the staff facilities are awful. Broken taps and no decent drinking water for staff. The heating is awful and you have to park your car on the main road. No chairs in the store so you're on your feet 9 to 11 hours a day depending on the shift you have. Sales targets don't add up too the realistic trade that the store achieves. Some times no customers enter the store for hours at a time so be prepared to be bored , unless the state manager is present then everyone tries to look busy. You might be sent to get change from the bank or pick up stock or deliver items to customers using your car with no compensation. Once every week or so the sight gets an email from above to go spy on the local competition so you get sent to take pictures and report back. Training happens when you have no customers but it's the same 5 legend products. The business practice and return policies are awful , I could go on and on.

A Fast-Paced, Rewarding Workplace with Plenty of Growth Opportunities
The good thingsWorking at Sydney Tools has been an incredibly rewarding experience. As a senior salesperson, I get to work with a wide range of quality products and help customers find the right tools for their needs. The company fosters a fast-paced, supportive environment where hard work is recognised and rewarded. If you’re passionate about tools, sales and being part of a motivated team, Sydney Tools is a great place to be.
The challengesLike any fast-paced retail environment, Sydney Tools can be challenging at times. The workload can be demanding, especially during peak sales periods, and staying across such a large product range requires ongoing learning. Targets are ambitious, which pushes you to continually perform at your best. These challenges can be intense, but they also help you grow professionally, build resilience, and develop strong problem-solving skills. If you’re motivated, adaptable, and enjoy working under pressure, these aspects can actually be very rewarding.

A place for driven people who want to succeed and grow. You will be rewarded well for your efforts.
The good thingsPersonal Growth. This company really does reward your hard efforts. I have never worked for another company that has given me the opportuntites with renumeration or internal advancement within this time frame. Its exciting to be a part of a growing company.
The challengesBeing part of a company growing so quickly has its challenges and sometimes we overshoot what is acheivable, so timeframes and expectations can be high. but it comes from a good place of passion and a drive to succeed.

The good thingsSydney Tools is a fantastic company to work for! There is the general day to day challenges you face in the role however the support network is vast and the structures in place prepare you well and truly. I have progressed at a great pace throughout the business and the pay reviews are a huge bonus. Great money for the role and a solid team based atmosphere.
The challengesGeneral retail issues with consumers pop up from time to time as they would in any retail setting however you have a large amount of support and clear cut procedures on how to handle these.
