    AI summary of recent reviews

Employees consistently praise the editorial and design teams at United Media Group, describing them as talented, creative and fantastic colleagues. The company offers opportunities for fast career progression, with the chance to advance quickly to leadership roles, and provides a good entry point into the publishing industry for those starting their careers.

However, there are some potential challenges to consider. Compensation may not always align with increased responsibilities, and there is a high turnover of staff, which can impact training and continuity. A place where dreams go to die
The good thingsCollaborating with the creative, talented people who make up the editorial and design team.
The challengesGoalposts are constantly moved so that increased responsibility never has to be rewarded with increased compensation (editors paid the same, sometimes less, than assistants), which makes it impossible to obtain an income appropriate for your duties, the pressure you work under, or even wages in line with the legal award rates. Unrealistic expectations placed on editorial and design team based largely on the fact that senior management have no idea about editorial timelines or processes, and when issues are constructively communicated, you are met with irritation and unproductive, patronising responses. Editorial staff are spoken to in a condescending, disrespectful manner despite the fact they are the only reason the company still functions. Ultimately this is a company controlled by someone who inherited it and should never have been placed in the position to manage a team of employees – especially susceptible young employees who are trying to break into a competitive industry, eager to please and willing to endure mistreatment.

    Don't waste your time.
The good thingsThe editorial team + design team are fantastic people. High turnover of staff means quick progression to leadership roles.
The challengesThe high turnover of staff means that no one is adequately trained. Unrealistic expectations of staff. Your success in the job is measured by your ability to pester clients for material. Management do not care about the quality of content in the magazine, they never actually read any of the written material. Outdated management style, very little respect for staff and bring their personal issues to work. Very poor pay.

    Toxic and negative environment.
The good thingsLovely editorial team and design team. Good chance to get into publishing industry Nice clients
The challengesIt appears they mostly hire young staff so they can exploit them for as much work as possible on minimal pay. Super high turnover of staff. As it is a family ran business seem to think its appropriate to bring their personal issues to work / use as an excuse for being absent. Out dated views surrounding diversity etc. Very poor management - zero communication skills. No respect for those working there who are outside of the family unit.
