Good team culture and learning, but poor management, inequality, and instability.
The good thingsThe team culture is positive, and I learned many basic and intermediate skills. Working during school holidays is usually very relaxed, and there are plenty of opportunities to communicate with a wide range of people. Students and teachers are usually very friendly.
The challengesUpper management is often out of touch, with noticeable inequality. Pay rises do not keep up with inflation. Some admin tools are restricted to certain staff who act as gatekeepers, making tasks difficult without constant follow-up. Handover and documentation are poor, often requiring going through multiple people to find information. There is workplace gossip, ongoing cost-cutting, and recurring redundancies. Project management is largely handled by contractors whose contributions can be unclear. Some staff are treated the same despite openly contributing significantly less work.

Poor leadership and processes make for an OK working environment
    The good thingsFlexible working arrangements
The challengesSenior leadership team is lacking experience to successfully lead what can sometimes be an overall complex, archaic business into the future. Overall skill level and capacity of administrative/IT/ancillary staff is far below that of what you would expect from a business of this size with this level of turnover. Poor internal processes. Slow to adapt to change. Lots of people who have been there for far too long with little to no experience in any other business or industry.

The good thingsFood at cafeteria is nice
The challengesPoor management who are not open to change, most admin staff have been there too long and are very rude, don’t take or give opportunity to provide ideas or feedback, complete lack of staff culture, little to no employee benefits or useful professional development. No succession planning or opportunities. Low salary compared to other independent schools. Students can also be very entitled.
