Constantly pressed by senior staff to take on as much work as possible. Constantly forced by management to work outside safe patient ratios.
The good thingsThe other new staff are generally nice when not completely exhausted.
The challengesUnfair treatment from senior staff and management. Taking advantage of new grad nurses. Forced to do 50% night shifts.

Wonderful nursery with supportive management and community role with lovely co-workers.
The good thingsthis role has provided with me with the opportunity to give continual care throughout admission to a NNU then ongoing home visits to ensure safe transition of a new born home after an admission to a neonatal unit. This enabled me to engage with families for a longer period of time and watch them gain confidence with the care of their child at home. The staff in the neonatal unit and family support team (home care) have provided me with further education, ongoing knowledge and professional friendships which I believe are vital in a role in health care to provide care, comfort and support to each other.
The challengesthe challenges I have faced in this roll is obstruction and hesitation to engage in new, up to date care models and practices from more experienced staff members. Our unit is out of date and requires now equipment to give more up to date care. Lastly, we have consistently been understaffed, resulting in many staff members doing overtime, feeling run down and often leading to a lack of experience in staff members on a shift (more junior). This results in other staff members not feeling supported, and having extra pressure placed on them to skill up quickly which I see leading to burn out and junior staff leaving.
