Why study this course

This course provides students with the knowledge and expertise in the area of human nutrition to equip them for potential employment within the public health sector, the food industry, nutrition research or government and non-government agencies. The course has a strong scientific and nutrition foundation in the first two years as students discover the scientific basis of nutrient requirements and healthy eating intertwined with practical elements such as assessing dietary intake, food chemistry and food composition, food skills and the food regulatory requirements that influence the food you eat every day. The final year focuses on developing research skills culminating in a nutrition-related research project encouraging the student to apply their principles of scientific inquiry. A choice of electives in year three including industry experience will enable the student to tailor the degree to their relevant interests.

Student review
This course has a very heavy science component, and a very intense structure. Lecturers are helpful and knowledgeable, but the course requirements negate any benefits the lecturers might provide.

Student review
I chose this course as I was passionate about health and wanted to do a science subject so I decided to do nutrition science. To do this course you need to be really passionate about food and science as it was heavily chemistry and biology based. I dropped the course a month into it as I found myself not involved or really into it as much as others were. Also it was very hard to have a work and uni life balance as we didn’t get to allocate our subjects on the timetable, it was already done for us therefore making it difficult to study and earn money at the same time.
