Why study this course

This program introduces students to work with individuals and communities to promote health and wellbeing by ensuring that all are able to participate in everyday activities. Blending theory and practice, the program encourages students to be problem solvers, creative thinkers and self-directed learners. It combines studies in the biomedical, behavioural and occupational sciences. Occupational therapy is a health science profession which bases its practice on the study of people and their performance of daily activities including self-care, education, work and recreation. It is concerned with promoting people's well-being by assisting in their adaptation to the demands of their environment, and promoting their capacity to cope with everyday tasks. Extensive clinical practice is integrated through the program commencing in first year, and can include placement in the Hunter Region, NSW, Australia or overseas. Clinical centres can include major teaching hospitals, rural and remote hospitals and private practices.

The course was good, pretty much what I expected of a bachelor degree. The staff were there whenever you needed them, I was always able to ask for help. The atmosphere and environment of the uni was what I wanted as well.

Student review
Occupational Therapy is a diverse field to work in, with many different areas in which you can specialise. I think that the depth of which they presented most of these areas is admirable within the constraints of the course length(4yrs). Some lecturers were more engaging in their delivery than others, and some subjects I found had too much emphasis, which turned out not to have a lot of relevance when attempting to find a job. A lot of students were unhappy with the manner in which the university allocated practical placements, however I was pleased to be able to get a range of different settings.
