This program introduces students to work with individuals and communities to promote health and wellbeing by ensuring that all are able to participate in everyday activities. Blending theory and practice, the program encourages students to be problem solvers, creative thinkers and self-directed learners. It combines studies in the biomedical, behavioural and occupational sciences. Occupational therapy is a health science profession which bases its practice on the study of people and their performance of daily activities including self-care, education, work and recreation. It is concerned with promoting people's well-being by assisting in their adaptation to the demands of their environment, and promoting their capacity to cope with everyday tasks. Extensive clinical practice is integrated through the program commencing in first year, and can include placement in the Hunter Region, NSW, Australia or overseas. Clinical centres can include major teaching hospitals, rural and remote hospitals and private practices.
