According to Google, in the year between January 2012 and January 2013 alone, searches for full-time jobs increased by a whopping 41%, with the majority of those searches coming from NSW, Victoria and Queensland.

Searches for part-time jobs in that same period have increased by 6%, again principally in NSW, Victoria and Queensland.

Searches for casual jobs have increased year on year by 13% and interestingly, the top 3 states here are ACT, Tasmania and Queensland.

So what does all that mean for you?

Well to begin with, it indicates that there is healthy competition out there in the job seeking market. There are plenty of people who are actively seeking to make a change in their working life - and it follows that there are plenty of opportunities to do so.

But what about the growth of job ads to match the amount of job searches?

In terms of full-time job ads, the numbers have remained fairly stable between January 2012 and January 2013.

Part-time job ads have increased significantly (18%) in that same 12 month period.

But the amount of job ads for casual jobs has skyrocketed by 49% year on year.

This job ad growth data tends to suggest a shift in the way people are working and the way employers are gearing their workforces.

And if you are someone who is looking for some flexibility in their work schedule to help accommodate other aspects of their life, this current scenario could be ideal for you.

Perhaps you have a young family, and you want to re-enter the workforce? You may have a lot to offer a prospective employer but can't commit the hours that a full-time job requires.

The Top 3 industries posting casual job ads in January 2013 are (once again) Education & Training (another impressive increase of 72% in the past 12 months); Hospitality & Tourism (45%) and Healthcare & Medical (6%).

So what can we glean from this information?

Well the most obvious fact is that now is a great time to look for your ideal job in Education & Training whether it's full-time, part-time or casual. So if that is your vocation, you may very well find yourself in the box seat for a step up in your career.

And if it's not your area of expertise, and you are looking for a change of direction, maybe you should seriously consider it.
