As an Enterprise Architect you will use architecture principles and practices to analyse business structures and processes and ensure that they align with business goals effectively and efficiently. Enterprise architecture has become a priority for businesses that are trying to keep up with new technologies such as cloud computing.
Tasks and duties
- Ensuring solution architectures conform to enterprise architecture principles, standards, and strategy.
- Leading the creation of the enterprise architecture capability.
- Understanding the business's economic and financial levers that are susceptible to digital transformation, to effectively support and guide technology investment decisions.
- Demonstrating business value of enterprise architecture.
- Developing and presenting business capability models and roadmaps to facilitate discussion and decision making.
- Leading a team to design and build the application that has been architected.
- Discussing the overall business plan with clients and what areas can be improved that might streamline a business or software process.
How to become an Enterprise Architect
You’ll need a combination of education and experience to become an Enterprise Architect. Those who choose this career path typically hold a bachelor or master's degree in computer science, information technology or a related field, and extensive experience in IT or a related field.
- 1.Get a bachelor or master’s degree in computer science, information technology or a related field.
- 2.You’ll need to gain hands-on experience working with computer systems, hard drives, service-oriented architecture, cloud computing, software and systems architecture and other architecture technology.
- 3.Consider gaining experience as a Computer Programmer or Software Developer. Enterprise Architects need to be able to understand syntax in different languages. The best way to learn this is to gain some practical experience.
