What's it like to be a Lending Manager?
Lending Managers are the head of a lending, loan or credit department. Their role involves approving loans and lending terms, and ensuring that their department doesn't hand out too many loans at once. Lending Managers must ensure that all Lending Officers under their charge comply with government regulations, which may require teaching them about industry standards and reporting any updates.
Tasks and duties
- Reviewing current loans and records of repayments to calculate and maintain overall lending amounts.
- Developing and implementing strategies to improve loan department efficiency and meet sales targets.
- Supervising and training Lending Officers who process loan applications.
- Generating new business.
- Recruiting lending staff.
- Coordinating and scheduling work for employees to reduce processing-times for loan applications.
How to become a Lending Manager
To become a Lending Manager in Australia, you usually need a relevant qualification and extensive industry experience. It may also be advantageous to achieve accreditation with the Australian Institute of Credit Management.
- 1.Complete a relevant tertiary qualification, such as a Certificate IV in Credit Management (FNS40120), Diploma of Credit Management (FNS51520) or bachelor degree in finance.
- 2.Apply for accreditation with the Australian Institute of Credit Management. Accreditation can enhance your credentials and opportunities.
