What's it like to be a Relationship Manager?
Relationship Managers are responsible for communicating with certain people or entities inside or outside of the company they work for. Relationship Managers may interact with a range of stakeholders: businesses, clients, vendors, customers, communities and government.
Tasks and duties
- Understanding customer needs and developing strategies to address them.
- Approaching new customers to establish relationships.
- Resolving customer complaints.
- Gaining knowledge of competitors and conducting competitor analysis.
- Identifying key personnel in client companies or organisations and cultivating relationships with them.
- Working with the ultimate aims of client preservation and contract renewal.
- Communicating opportunities for upselling or cross-selling with the sales team.
How to become a Relationship Manager
Formal qualifications are not essential to work as a Relationship Manager. A qualification in a related field may be an advantage when seeking employment.
- 1.Strengthen your customer service and relationship-building skills in an entry-level role in sales, customer service, administration or a related field.
- 2.Consider completing a bachelor degree in business, marketing, or management. This will usually take 3 years of full-time study, and completion of year 12 with an adequate ATAR score is often required for entry.
