What's it like to be a Service Technician?
Service Technicians install, maintain, test and repair various equipment or systems. They may be required to travel to a client’s location, to provide these services. Service Technicians may specialise in a particular area such as air-conditioning and refrigeration, electrical, fire alarms, security systems, and audio-visual equipment.
Tasks and duties
- Provide scheduled and unscheduled services.
- Provide scheduled and unscheduled services.
- Prepare quotes for customers.
- Record notes and file appropriately.
- Train junior staff in more complex aspects of service and repair.
- Maintain technical knowledge.
- Keep abreast of industry trends, and new products or services.
- Find opportunities to promote further sales and services.
How to become a Service Technician
The qualifications or licensing you’ll need to work as Service Technician will depend on the field in which you specialise. A trade qualification may be an advantage.
- 1.If you’re interested in refrigeration, consider undertaking a Certificate III in Air-conditioning and Refrigeration (UEE32211).
- 2.If you’re interested in electrical servicing, you’ll need to complete a Certificate III in Electrotechnology Electrician (UEE30811).
- 3.You could also consider mechanical servicing. You’ll need to do complete a Certificate III in Engineering - Mechanical Trade (MEM30205).
