One of the best things about a career in sales is that it doesn’t necessarily require a degree or qualification, or even any previous experience in the field.

Sales is mostly about personality and communication.

Sure, you need to have a thorough knowledge of the product or service you are selling, but that can be learned. The keys to being a great sales person are knowing what it is you’re selling, believing in what you’re selling and being able to transfer that knowledge and belief to people who will buy it.

The actual job descriptions of sales people are as many and varied as the different types of sales jobs available.

You might be a ‘road warrior’ who spends your day making sales calls to existing clients (as well as some cold calls to potential new ones).

You may prefer more of an account management role where you work with a team and help oversee a client’s entire account.

If you are a real people person then perhaps working in a store is what will suit you best. That way, you can have an entire range of products to work with and a whole bunch of new people every day to sell them to.

Or maybe telemarketing is where your future lies? With the rise of the digital age, there are huge opportunities in telephone and online sales, and all indications are that this trend is only going to get bigger.

Another great thing about sales as a career, is that there are currently thousands of positions across Australia on the SEEK website that are looking to be filled by the right candidate. In fact, sales is one of the best categories there is in terms of job supply vs job applicants.
