Tasks and duties
- Working with clients to determine training goals, such as weight loss, strength, flexibility or cardiovascular health.
- Assessing clients’ current level of fitness, weight, body composition, strength and endurance.
- Developing and implementing a health, fitness and workout plan and providing basic nutrition advice.
How to become a Personal Trainer
To become a Personal Trainer in Australia, you need a Certificate IV in Fitness (SIS40221). You may also work as a Personal Trainer if you have a degree in exercise science or human movement.
- 1.Complete a Certificate III in Fitness (SIS30321) followed by a Certificate IV in Fitness (SIS40221). You’ll gain the knowledge needed for entry-level roles in the fitness industry as well as specialist knowledge for a role as a Personal Trainer. Alternatively, complete a Complete Personal Trainer qualification that combines the required units from both qualifications.
- 2.Consider gaining professional membership with AUSactive, Physical Activity Australia and/or FITREC.
- 3.Ensure that you have appropriate professional indemnity, public liability, and product liability insurance. Some employers may also prefer you to have a current Working with Children check.
