    Carers SA does not care
The good things-work colleagues are kind and willing to help each other out - empowering carers and educating them on how to best live their caring lives - fair wage
The challenges-toxic work culture in office supported by high staff turnover -No reflective practice to support high stress job -work from home rights very poor -no penalty rates working before 9am or after 5pm -micromanagement rife -business very ‘reactive’ with no forward planning or effort to support itself - KPI’s that contradict their own ‘journey of change’ model where carers are meant to be empowered to help themselves -management play favourites with staff -management have issues with accountability and gaslighting staff -the office is an old toxic science lab with inadequate air conditioning or ventilation - the office is based in a rough area with no security other than cameras -HR works for best interests of company not to support staff

Supporting Carers is rewarding, but micromanagement and lack of vision hinder progress.
The good thingsSupporting Carers in their journey and facilitating their access to different services was very rewarding. I had also appreciated working alongside colleagues who genuinely care and do their best to support Carers with the resources available.
The challengesThere are areas that could be improved, particularly regarding micromanagement, lack of clear vision, and organisational change. While funding is allocated to better serve Carers, too much time is spent in meetings and discussions rather than implementing actions and driving progress. The organisational culture tends to move slowly, making it difficult to adopt agile and progressive approaches that are essential in the 21st century. A stronger focus on timely decision-making and innovation would significantly enhance the organisation’s impact. Additionally, the organisation relies heavily on external funding and does not develop initiatives to promote stability and sustainability on its own. This dependence creates vulnerability, as it assumes funding will always be available instead of building internal capacity and long-term resilience. Greater emphasis on innovation, diversification of resources, and proactive planning would strengthen sustainability and ensure lasting impact.
People & Culture TeamThank you for your considered feedback. We recognise that working in a dynamic community services environment brings challenges, particularly during periods of change and growth. Carers SA is currently focused on strengthening strategic planning, leadership capability and ways of working to better support both staff and carers. Feedback such as this informs our ongoing improvement efforts and our commitment to building a more agile, collaborative and supportive organisation.

Great values driven organisation to work for that is passionate about helping Carers and innovation.
The good thingsI’ve been part of the Carers SA team for over 10 years, and I genuinely enjoy working there. Carers SA is a purpose-driven organisation with a clear mission. We support Carers so they can continue to provide care and support to others. Every day I see how our services make a real difference in the lives of unpaid Carers and their families. We have a team of passionate, caring professionals who support each other, collaborate well and always focus on positive outcomes for carers and the community. There is genuine flexibility around work-life balance, including hybrid work arrangements and understanding, supportive managers who value individual circumstances. Many staff bring lived experience as Carers themselves, which creates a culture of empathy, understanding and mutual respect. No one day is the same, with evolving government contracts and community needs, there’s a real commitment to continuous improvement and innovation.
The challengesLike any organisation operating in a dynamic community services environment, there is challenges around changing funding arrangements to managing workload as demand for Carer supports grows.
People & Culture TeamThank you for sharing your experience and for your ongoing contribution to Carers SA. It is encouraging to hear that our purpose, values, flexibility and team culture are reflected in your work. We appreciate your acknowledgement of the challenges of working in a changing funding environment and remain committed to continuous improvement, innovation and supporting our people to deliver positive outcomes for Carers.
