What’s it like working at Catholic Archdiocese of Melbourne?

    AI summary of recent reviews

The Catholic Archdiocese of Melbourne benefits from pleasant and collaborative colleagues, an excellent location near the botanic gardens, and shows promise with its commitment to modernisation, particularly in IT projects. The organisation demonstrates forward-thinking leadership and many employees appreciate their coworkers.

However, there are areas for improvement, including the need to address traditional management approaches that can impact staff engagement, updating workplace systems to meet industry standards, and establishing more consistent flexible working arrangements across teams. The organisation also faces challenges in addressing the gap between external perception and internal reality.

Very minimal workload, no autonomy, micromanaged and clock watched instead of appreciated for the quality and volume of work.
The good thingsWork load is very easily managable. Most staff are okay to work with.
The challengesWork life balance is not great. Despite contracted as hybrid role, there is none or minimal work from home, only at your manager's discretion i.e. you are never in control of your week/how you feel comfortable to produce your best work. Similar work profiles yet some teams work from office 2 days a week, others must attend 4-5 days while no professional reason for such requirements except one manager showcasing controlling behaviour . Manager lacking managerial experience and professional training contributes to workplace chaos, manager discussing your specific situations with other employees, displaying controlling behaviour, debilitating levels of micromanagement, lack of autonomy for employees.

I have really enjoyed my time here so far and am really enthusiastic about the changes that are coming
The good thingsThere is a genuine commitment to implementing modern ways of operating and lots of great projects, particularly IT, that are going to make things even better. There has been a lot of change recently and there is still some transition to take place, but overall people have been really respectful to past and present colleagues. It's actually a great place to work.
The challengesExternal perception of the organisation doesnt equal the reality. We have a long way to go to convince the public that our organisation is a great one but that's also a fantatic challenge for many of us.
