Every day, CBM International is working in 63 countries around the world to transform lives. In 2015, CBM Australia worked directly in 17 of the poorest countries. Together, CBM globally seeks to empower people living with disability in the world’s poorest countries, transforming their lives and breaking down the barriers in their homes and communities that stop them from reaching their full potential. In low income countries, people living with disability are often unable to access basic rights and services such as education and healthcare, and are often excluded from employment, and social and community activities.Without these opportunities, people with disability and their families often fall deeper into poverty and become more vulnerable to further disability. Globally, CBM works to break this persistent cycle. Disability and poverty go hand in hand, so we tackle them together.Source: This is an extract from the company's own website.

What’s it like working at CBM Australia?

    AI summary of recent reviews

Employees value working for CBM Australia because of its meaningful mission to support people living in poverty with disabilities. Staff appreciate their passionate and supportive colleagues, describing the environment as family-like, and note that management is approachable and provides opportunities for career growth across different departments. The organisation offers flexible working arrangements, including hybrid work options that support excellent work-life balance, and additional benefits such as salary packaging.

However, there are some potential challenges, including the rapid pace of organisational change as CBM Australia adapts to new opportunities and demands. The hybrid working arrangements, whilst beneficial, require extra effort to maintain connections with colleagues and preserve workplace culture. Some employees have noted that management approaches can vary across the organisation, and there may be a preference for established working methods in certain areas, which can make introducing modern strategies more challenging.

I would not recommend this organisation for those seeking a supportive and progressive work place.
The good thingsThere are not many great things.
The challengesOverall, my experience at the organisation was challenging due to a workplace culture that felt quite rigid and, at times, unsupportive. There was a strong preference for traditional, “old school” ways of working, which made it difficult to introduce new ideas or adapt to more modern approaches, particularly in areas like digital and strategic marketing. Decision-making at the management level often lacked clarity and direction, which impacted team alignment and made it difficult to execute work effectively. Strategy would frequently change or feel underdeveloped, leading to inefficiencies and frustration within the team. The role itself involved a high volume of repetitive or low-impact tasks, which limited opportunities for growth, creativity, and meaningful contribution. Combined with limited autonomy and a lack of open communication, this made it challenging to stay engaged and motivated.

Opportunity to use your skills to make the world a better place
The good thingsIt's wonderful to work in an organisation alongside a group of people who are passionate about making the world a better place for the poorest of the poor - people living in poverty with a disability. I've had the opportunity to visit CBM's field projects, and it's inspiration to witness the difference that we make through our work. CBM are also supportive of hybrid work - which means I have great work-life balance.
The challengesCBM's staff worked remotely during Covid19, and continue to enjoy hybrid working arrangements. This means we have to make an extra effort to stay connected to our colleagues and maintain our great CBM culture.
